I worked at FreshDirect full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

FD is a fun and exciting place to work. Most people are pretty young and very smart, there's a lot of collaboration, and the work is constantly new and interesting. Employees are pretty empowered and generally have enough responsibility to keep things from getting boring. The culture is meritocratic and employee value is recognized throughout the organization. There's also fresh produce and discounted lunches, which are really nice.

    Cons

It's a 24/7 operation, so the exciting and rewarding responsibility also means you occasionally need to put out fires or work at odd hours. Departments are somewhat siloed; it can be difficult to coordinate large projects across the company. The odd shifts and quiet neighborhood are a detriment to development of office camaraderie.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Make meetings more efficient. Work on scheduling more, smaller company bonding experiences.

I have been working at FreshDirect as a contractor (less than an year)

    Pros

Great company that employs team members with a great work ethic, bright & fun. They frequently have group events, bbqs, contests for the teams etc. - keeps the work environment nice. CEO; Jason Ackerman knows all his team members - commendable!FreshDirect really does have fantastic food - some of the best fruit and produce I have ever enjoyed! Close to the 7 train and LIRR..

    Cons

Corporate Office is in an industrial area - safe, but not an environment for easyoutside walks, lunches etc..

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Smart management that does listen.

    Pros

So many beneifts and great work environment. Everyone is really friendly and welcoming. The management is engaged with their employees and focus on being a team. Pretty impressed with the training offered for employees.

    Cons

It's cold. The plant is a steady 20-40 degrees. Other than that it's not a bad place to work.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

spend more energy on creating a career developement program for associate to supervisor to manager.

    Pros

Great tips. What other job allows you to walk into the homes of celebrities on a regular basis? Customers are usually grateful for all you do, hence the great tips. Great atmosphere in the hub. Great benefits. There's always hours for everyone, you can take double shifts and 6th days if needed.

    Cons

Some employees are extremely hard to work with, half don't care about doing the job right, and the other half don't care about you. Having to work outside when there's a foot of snow on the ground. Helpers and Runners being interchangeable positions.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    I have none.

I worked at FreshDirect full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

The people are great, and there is opportunity in a lot of different roles. If you are interested in the food industry, or other fields such as technology, HR, then it's a great place for you. The corporate office has a lot going on. You can also drive a truck and work in the plant.

    Cons

If you are not in the corporate office, then you will have a very tough job. Understand what the job is before you start. The leadership is good, but the each job pays a different salary, so know that the food business is not typically a high paying career path.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be sure to properly train all staff, regardless of which position they have.

    Pros

Management has really done a great job and career development for employees offering training and a clear path to growth in the company. Lots of employee engagement such as discounted food, monthly bbq's, and free stuff.

    Cons

Cold. The plant is cold (35 degrees) and the hours can be long. They like to say, "we're done when we're done." Hours can vary and OT may not always be there
