Pros
It was a fun place to work and I wish that I had more time there. There were many people willing to help you learn and improve yourself and your work. Customers were mostly nice, and no one ever spit in the food of nasty customers. There was a great sense of teamwork and morale there.
Cons
One of the managers did not quite know what he was doing, which made it hard on everyone else. We had to compensate for him. Company came in one Sunday night and told everyone that they were unemployed as of 12:01AM that night. Was very sad to see it go. It's not too hard to get a job, but it is hard to find one that you love as much as I loved this job.
Advice to Senior Management
Please try to support your workers more. This sudden dismissal was very hard on everyone, including the management. We had built a team that worked well together and most of us loved working there. Sudden termination is not the way to go. At the very least, we should have been offered the possibility of transferring without going through the application process again. I'm a very hard worker and I take pride in my work. I would not work for Friendly's again.
Pros
Interaction with customers were great. Real team environment.
Cons
The environment was a bit unorganized especially during a dinner rush. There was also a large tendency for managers to play favorites.
Advice to Senior Management
Managers needs to take some lessons in how to treat employees fairly.
Pros
Its a fun job, I love talking to the guests and staff.
Cons
bankruptcy...
growth opportunities have gone to none...
Pros
Fun and friendly environment, great opportunities
Cons
under knowledged upper mid level management, not enough support, old buildings with lots of maintenance issues
Advice to Senior Management
Please give us more local support
Pros
Free Ice cream
bonuses
discount on meals
Cons
Can't get time off when requested, crazy shifts, 10 hr plus days
Advice to Senior Management
You really should have more management staff at the stores. Assitance and Managers cannot get time off that they have earned. Friendlys is a family restaurant but....not for people that work there. Your just a body. Upper management doesnt seem to have a clue on what the stores need. They need more employees to run the store but will not give the money to train them.
Pros
I was able to eat the ice cream and the toppings whenever it had slowed down.
Food is half off while you work.
Cons
There is hardly a night where you leave without filth on your clothes.
Waitresses can be very impatient, rude, and love to gossip.
No one really trained or properly showed me how to do things... and then they'd get mad because I didn't do things that I didn't know I was supposed to do.
Managers are biased and treat other employees better.
Advice to Senior Management
Train your new employees better! Don't leave them to work shifts alone or close alone and expect them to know how to do things perfectly.
Pros
good experience
some growth into management
entry level
Cons
not organized
poor pay
no appreciation
can be overwhelming
Advice to Senior Management
I wish they had better training for management and crew. Also I think most of the stores need updating. Its not fair that your expected to bewhat they want with out the resources. Ive been acting Gm since my old Gm left the company and I havent seen anything for it. not even a thank you it feels like you do so much for them but they dont care.I even came back for maternity leave early because th hey were short staffed and it would have been nice if someone had just said thanks for helping us out.this company has so much potential but none of the hire ups have ever worked in the store to know anything.
Pros
-competitive pay and good benefits
-Fast paced environment.
-great customers and a few regulars you will get to know well.
Cons
-Did not get along with some of the co workers, making team work less efficient.
-Certain managers are hard to deal with.
Advice to Senior Management
Consider the employee's and their situation rather than always going by the book. Times are hard and we are human, we can only do so much.
Pros
Good ice cream, fairly decent employees, good resume builder
Cons
Terrible manager wage
Lack of leadership and communication from CEO to DM
Horrible benefits
Lack of fresh ideas
Friendlys has so much potental. But they have idiots running the company. The higher ups have never worked anywhere else, so they cant bring fresh ideas to the table. Because they dont know any different. The entire company needs to go through a serious restructuring. Cut down the menu, close the worst units, promote the good TGMs to higher positions. Also you need to pay your managers more. If you want to compete with chilis etc.... Then you need to pay like them, and you will get more work out of them. Go back to the basics. Burgers, melts, fries, ice cream. THATS IT! No steak, floundr etc.. We are a burger joint for kids! hopefully Harsha (our CEO) reads this.
Advice to Senior Management
cut the menu in half, shut down the bottom 10% of units, reinvest in the units.
Pros
Good Food and Ice Cream
Cons
Labor cost unrealisitic
High turnover of BOH employees
No budget for training
Lack of Support from Upper MGMT for staffing
Advice to Senior Management
Get with the program and begin hiring quality managers to bring your product up to the level it could be. Allow more time and hours for training to produce quality staff.
