I worked at Friendly's Ice Cream full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Honestly, none. This is a company that chews up employees at all levels and spits them out just as quick. If you're a loyal and hard worker they'll wear you down.

    Cons

You have to work a minimum of 50 hours and even though you can write your own schedule you are bound to their "requirements" that essentially means you have one day off a week. You can't carry over vacation or holiday pay and you never get to use either because even if you train your employees to be self sufficient the DMs and RDOs will see to it that you're wrong.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop burning people out. Stop treating people like they're robots with no families or feelings.

I worked at Friendly's Ice Cream full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

I liked my team, loved my guests,

    Cons

Made to run too tight all the time and got beat up for it. In this business, Friendly's is the only company where the manager has to seat, serve, cook, do dishes and mop the floor in order to make an unreasonable labor percentage

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop making changes without talking to the people in the field

I worked at Friendly's Ice Cream full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Work with friends, pay is not terrible for waiters/waitresses, cheap/free food....I worked this place through college, and it helped me pay rent and make ends meet.

    Cons

If you are a closer, you are screwed...well I guess depending on what store it is. Friendly’s is a place that will understaff the restaurant at times, which leaves you taking care of too many tasks at once, leading to customer satisfaction taking the blow. For example, I’ve had very busy nights when I will be the one making my own ice creams, doing the dishes, running my food, and grabbing drinks. So easy, but trust me it ain’t.

Overall, this place stunk to work at times. But, as I was in college, most of my coworkers were in the same boat and found a way to make work fun and enjoyable. When I look back, I made some amazing friends at this place and do not regret it

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Improve upper management (above GM)

I worked at Friendly's Ice Cream full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

very easy systems and procedures in place, everything is done this way, at this time, in this order, etc. the micromanaging actually makes it pretty self-explanatory to do anything. very few restaurants these days are actually geared towards kids, so there is a potential niche there

    Cons

you get what you pay for, expectations in management are high but the salary is just a step above McDonald's so don't think that because you have servers and greeters that this is anything other than fast food. people don't always just work for a paycheck, a majority of the time there's another reason keeping them at their place of employment--if you could look at Friendly's turnover rates, you would understand why this is a con to me. Also, when you say "manager" for Friendly's, it should say "Working Manager". You need working knowledge of every position in the restaurant (cook, fountain, greeter, dishwasher, prep cook, etc) and you should EXPECT to work one of those positions at least ONCE every day.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

People don't JUST work for a paycheck. If you can get people to work for YOU as well as the money they're making, that will trickle the whole way down right to their 16 year old greeter who's never had a job before. You'll get way better results from HAPPY employees and that starts at the TOP. The benefits with this company are sub-par. I know line cooks at hotels that have better and more benefits than Friendly's General Managers.
