    Inability to Execute

    Sales (Former Employee)

ProsAn early pioneer in developing & selling Help Desk/ITSM solutions, organization is strictly focused on IT service delivery, inside culture has very good solution focus. Technology offerings, product stability are above industry average. Technical support of products is good. Extremely large customer install base if you count FrontRange’s Goldmine CRM offering.

ConsUnsustainable business model. Well over half of total annual revenue generated from maintenance/support contract renewals only. To maintain this support revenue stream, FrontRange actively support/sell five separate ITSM solution platforms Five flavors of ITSM each requiring separate support structures and licensing models. Vast majority of install base use old platform offerings, no service offered that can sensibly migrate customers to updated products; thus no product can be retired. Stagnant growth of pure software license/subscription revenues make constant rumors of FrontRange’s eventual sell-off by private equity owners believable. New CEO overspent on colorful rebranding and a needless corporate HQ relocation. High turnover in key executive positions. Weak relationships with market analysts. Within this ultra-competitive market (ITSM) space, FrontRange has evolved into a ‘me too’ vendor; missed its chance to stand above the crowd. Needed transition to reliable cloud subscription offerings brings additional financial challenges.

    FrontRange is a mixed bag

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee) Milpitas, CA

ProsInteresting metadata based technology platform and hybrid SaaS/premise product strategy. Consistently profitable, quarter after quarter. Very flexible telecommuting policy.

ConsBusiness is stagnant and not growing, which reduces career opportunities. Private equity owners continue to suck out every penny they can. High turnover and continuing bleeding of engineering talent.

Advice to Senior ManagementNeed to focus on top-line growth to create business expansion opportunities and career opportunities.

Great products, company needs to get priorities in order

IT Department (Former Employee) Milpitas, CA

ProsGreat products and talented staff. The Hybrid On-Premise/SaaS approach is great.

ConsMisaligned priorities. Executive leadership is constantly switching direction of company and does not convey goals and future of company. High turnover rate and employees are underappreciated.

Advice to Senior ManagementClearly communicate companies strategy and plans. Reward valuable employees more in order to retain great talent.

Constant changes make it difficult to make money

    Sales (Former Employee)

ProsStrong Midmarket install base, cloud & on premise ITSM solutions, and rebuilding Marketing from the ground up.

ConsFew sales people make their numbers, constant management changes, need to win back the market and the analyst.

Advice to Senior ManagementStay the course for a while, get the analyst back on your side and continue to invest in marketing. Give sales people realistic numbers to make.

Lots of promise, but not realized

Member of Technical Staff (Former Employee) Pleasanton, CA

ProsA good place to learn skills, some decent managers, but not a lot of solid organization. Technology was solid, but is becoming obsolete. If the company gets its technical act together, it can remain a serious player in the service delivery management space. Its CRM product is solid.

ConsLittle or no leadership. Chaotic and stressful atmosphere that lacks direction. No positive feedback. Too much screaming . . .

Advice to Senior ManagementClean house and start fresh

    Can you say "Sinking Ship"

Sales (Former Employee) Colorado Springs, CO

ProsIf you want some experience - work for them but don't expect much!

ConsThis company has declined in Sales year over year, they treat their employees like their customers... they sell you just enough to buy then all bets are off... you are stuck wondering what you just got yourself into. For all those looking at this company it is not a place of long term career growth... if it is a stop-gap for a paycheck great but if any better opportunity comes along... take it! Don't think you can "make changes", just not going to happen. They are stuck in the dark ages - the culture is toxic!
Their management team is just like any other political organization.... deny, hide, lie... they are not transparent to anyone unless you are part of the inner circle. Employees have no idea what is happening until after the "announcement" occurs and then it still is not clear. Those who are still there are just hoping their stock options will pay out... there can't be any other reason why some of the good people would continue to take this abuse.

Advice to Senior ManagementTreat your employees like people rather then slaves and maybe just maybe they will produce rather than find ways to get around doing work???

Great products, confusing direction, ok leadership

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

Pros- FrontRange has a pretty good HR package. 401k matching, gym membership options, etc.
    - Great products. I mean what company has strong SaaS, on premise, and hybrid offerings like FRS? Nobody, that's who
    - Great people to work with. Let's be honest, the people at FRS are really what makes it shine.
    - Interesting problems to solve. Every customer has cool problems to solve. ITIL, deployment, or discovery implementations always present difficult and cool problems.

Cons- Leadership is a little too hands off
    - Work/Life balance feels like a startup.
    - Pay rates are a little below Bay Area average
    - Confusing direction
    - Complete focus on billable hours and ignoring employee growth
    - Sales can sell a fictional product
    - Career growth is limited

Advice to Senior ManagementLet the employees grow and the company will grow. There are GREAT products at FRS, but you need to be honest with the customers and be far more transparent with employees.

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend
