This company is on a steep decline

Network Planning Engineer (Former Employee)
Elk Grove, CA

I worked at Frontier Communications full-time for more than 8 years

ProsPaychecks clear...for now.
Plenty of useless company culture training

ConsBenefits generally getting worse. Vacation/holidays are pretty bad compared to other companies. Training opportunities are abyssmal. Company can't handle the current debt load and laid off over 10% at the end of 2012

Advice to Senior ManagementFrontier used to be a good company to work for, but you took on too much debt and have let your aging systems get worse. You have missed so many opportunities that your competitors have taken, frontier is the laughingstock of the broadband world. Sell the company to someone that can actually manage and turn it around.

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend – I'm not optimistic about the outlook for this company

No Long Term Planning

Service Technician (Current Employee)
Bloomington, IL

I have been working at Frontier Communications full-time for more than 3 years

ProsGood Front Line Techs and Supervisors.

ConsZero forward planning. Forced to sell products that are not being advanced in capabilities or speeds unless the government pays for it. Engineering is lacking in all aspects and does not receive training to keep engineers relevent in techology. Executives increase the bottom line by removing all higher paid support personnel, caping pay, removing commisions and leaving the problem solving to a technician in the field without any support nor access to systems that do not work. Senior Management is out of touch with the operation of the company and solely focused on selling without providing products and services consumers want. Senior management has no relevant operational activity expirience. The Board of Directors do not have a member that has real word expirience in telecommuncations operations.

Advice to Senior ManagementPut a comprehensive long term technological plan together and make it known. Everyone already knows that we need to sell product. Pushing sales on frontline employees everyday with email blasts does not motivate them to sell. It appears as desperation. FIBER.... A return on investment for new technology installations does not need to be profitable on customer 1 in less than nine months. It is an investment for a long term contract. If customer 1 is at investment cost, then customer 2 moves to profit, and the third customer on that same piece of equipment is additional profit since the sales people can sell it since it is available. Remodel the larger Central Offices empty floors as data center lease locations for customers. Selling the bandwidth is easy when they are in the building. Buy a Data center or server farm company, GoDady is for sale, AOK Networks, Server Farm. Numerous companies are around and the prices are better for the return than the Verizon properties. White labeling products that are not Frontier's does not help sell them. And the number 1 custoemr complaint, FIX THE BILLING SYSTEM....

Worst company I've ever worked for in thirty five year career.

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

I worked at Frontier Communications full-time for more than 10 years

ProsNone. Frontier will hopefully be bankrupt soon. They have no idea how to run a phone company.

ConsManagement structure, upper management is clueless. They are hired on how well they kiss butt.

Advice to Senior ManagementWaste of time, they do not listen

Good pay but dying business

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)
Fort Wayne, IN

I have been working at Frontier Communications full-time for more than 10 years

ProsI enjoy my job, make good money, and work with great people.

ConsThis is a dying business. The company doesn't seem to acknowledge the fact that they have no idea how to run a large company. Upper Management continues to reinforce that their Legacy models of business are proven to work and have failed to use the knowledge and assets that they aquired from the Verizon buyout.

Advice to Senior ManagementListen to your ex-Verizon employees and let them help you run the business. They want to succeed and have the best interest of the company in mind. It can turn around if you evolve and look for best practices rather then closing your minds in thinking your old ways are still relevent in a technology based industry.

This company is broken.

Facilities Assigner (Current Employee)
Sun Prairie, WI

I have been working at Frontier Communications full-time for more than 3 years

Pros-Coworkers are occasionally talented and intelligent.
-Good pay if you're in a union.

Cons-Coworkers' talents are by and large wasted due to mismanagement. We have people with bachelor's degrees taking calls and doing glorified records keeping.
-Company is actively attacking the remaining union centers and replacing them with lower payed employees in right-to-work states.
-Middle and Upper management are mostly dysfunctional. Upper has no valuable input aside from "SELL SELL SELL" and Middle is authoritative and micromanaging.
-Employees do not have a sense of purpose or making a difference.
-Employees are not listened to by management.
-Employees are not given opportunities to advance their careers.
-Employees in call centers are subjected to favoritism and prejudice versus "VIP" staff. We regularly have staff come in to our center for weeks. They're given daily catered meals, parking in front, etc. We are reminded monthly to only park in back, and if we're lucky, we're given the scraps of what the VIPs had left over at the end of the day.

Advice to Senior ManagementStop treating your employees like factory workers. Many of them are smart, hardworking, and used to be motivated before you crushed their spirits. You're wasting your most expensive resources. Maggie Wilderotter WILL eventually run this company into the ground.

Internet helpdesk (Call center)

Internet Help Desk ( Call Center ) (Current Employee)
Allen, TX

I have been working at Frontier Communications full-time for less than a year

ProsDecent benefits and pay. Colleagues are helpful and most have a good attitude. Frontier is customer oriented so there is not an over emphasis of stats. They allow you to take care of the customer.

ConsIt is a call center so you want to have good stats. They also try to push you to sell there security product which is through fsecure. While they have good bonuses for selling I don't believe the product is one of the best. Outside support for fsecure is oversees and they are not very proficient.

Advice to Senior ManagementThere should be bonuses for selling but it should not be a stat for technical staff (Which is 40%). Partner with a company that produces a good product and updates.

A little bit about Frontier

Work At Home Customer Service Representative (Current Employee)
Deland, FL

I have been working at Frontier Communications full-time for more than a year

ProsGreat benefits and opportunities to move up. But also, they've been steadily growing despite the economy and they're currently expanding their Deland office to provide more work space, gym, basketball court out back, cafeteria just to mention a few. So its a great place to work.

ConsI don't like sales LOL...and that's where I work right now. However, I'm going to school (oh and they offer tuition reimbursement as well) for CIS and look forward to using my skills at Frontier once I'm done. So I hope to be there for a long time.

Defeated from the inside out

Sales and Service Tech (Current Employee)
Tri Cities, WA

I have been working at Frontier Communications full-time for more than 10 years

ProsEven with the take backs in recent bargaining it is still a somewhat competitive wage for a troubled economy

ConsMiddle management is defunct... Human Resourses is defunct... Safety is an after thought... management has fostered a work environment that pits craft employees against each other with favoritism and nepotism. Transferring or job promotion is done by favoritism if at all.

Advice to Senior ManagementRestructure HR department to respond to issues in appropriate, speedy and productive ways, safety safety safety! Remove disfunctional managers instead of punishing the regular employees... enforce your own policies!

Old School in the modern age

Product Manager (Current Employee)
Stamford, CT

I have been working at Frontier Communications full-time for more than 3 years

ProsDependable paycheck, Competitive pay. Nice office park. Free parking.

ConsPromotions from within are very difficult under certain EVP's and good under others. Make sure to openly ask. Culture is old school and prefers older practices and technologies,

Advice to Senior ManagementSocialize with your employees and customers to learn more about the business.
