    I worked at Fry's Electronics

    Pros

There's always something to do so you won't get bored as a merchandiser. They give most employees an hour lunch. Their hours are flexible based on your availability. You also get paid weekly.

    Cons

Only merchandisers, cashiers, & IP associates get paid hourly. Sales employees only get paid commission. Internet price matching takes away sales employees commission. Store manager & assistant store manager only care about sales that make gross profit. They force merchandisers to be cashiers. Most hourly paid employees get paid minimum wage. They don't give employees raises & the only way to get paid more as a merchandiser & cashier is to take a unnecessary test to gain commission for ringing up customers. The commission isn't really worth it either since as a merchandiser you will be busy dealing with product so you won't have much of a chance gaining commission on the register. Normal cashiers will also have to the work in the return department if they pass the test which takes away an hour of gaining commission in the registers. Customers always except that employees know everything about the products & are mostly rude. Holidays are extremely awful.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Pay merchandisers & cashiers more if you want them to do all the work you want them to do. Minimum wage isn't enough for all the bullcrap you make your employees do. Plus sales associates should also get a hourly paid because not every weeks is a good week for sales. I also recommend to official stop price matching. Price matching makes the company loses profit & takes away sales associates' commission.

I worked at Fry's Electronics part-time for less than a year

    Pros

Steady hours and flexible schedule. Good discounts.

    Cons

High turnover. Lack of company concern for employees. Lots of slacking off and playing around among employees. Company got rid of merchandiser positions. Everyone is in sales. Everyone is on commission, which could be a good or bad thing depending on how you do.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Provide more training to associates.

I worked at Fry's Electronics part-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Some of my co-workers are now some of my best friends.
    They had flexible scheduling.

    Cons

Learning does not run through this company.
Management used short-term tactics rather than long-term strategy.
Everyone was out for themselves than for a team.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Talk to your employees. Don't just have weekly video conferences and expect that things are alright. Many of the nicest people had bad things to say about the company.

I have been working at Fry's Electronics full-time for more than a year

    Pros

    - Potential to learn a lot if you pay close attention.
    - Rewarding if you show that you can go the extra mile
    - They will give anyone a chance (with or without experience)
    - Management are upbeat and do well to keep moral up

    Cons

    - They will give anyone a chance... leading to a possible negative impact to everyone's performance, but they will let you go during probation period, if you don't show any chance of acclimating.
    - Pay structure is vague due to base rate + commission calculations.
    - Work conditions could be better, leading to poor customer service. Few techs can successfully juggle a horde of customers while still completing their work assignments in a tolerable amount of time.
    - The pay will not keep good techs from leaving

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Increase the pay or improve work conditions. Fry's is losing many great techs that would've stayed if either of these conditions were better.

Former Employee - Audio/Video Sales in Sunnyvale, CA

I worked at Fry's Electronics full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

Enjoying the latest and greatest electronic products, and the employee discount is good. Having a great environment where you can interact with the public is ideal to maintain a great customer service.

    Cons

While working there, you start off as a cashier, then go to your department to sell (well, not just that, but accessory sales for Electronic Components, Computers or Audio/Video before you can start making your commission sales). Working in a commission environment is not that great because employment turnover is HIGH!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

They can be helpful with the open-door policy, as required by law. Sometimes they can be strict but motivational.

I have been working at Fry's Electronics full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Accepts most students in school or fresh out of school. Managers were friendly when I worked there, and software was easy to use for processing.

    Cons

Had to wear a tie and push carts outside in a 100degree Texas weather at least twice a day. The employee discount wasn't great. The Dallas store didn't seem to be progressing in any way. It just existed.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Fry's has a lot of potential, but the biggest concern is customer service. Often time there isn't enough people out on the floor to answer customer questions, and often they seem to hungry for the commission than knowing and dealing with what the customer needs. The aesthetic doesn't seem modern. There's old computers and a glitchy processing system. Budget better, the employees always seemed stretched thin. Sometimes there can be long lines for check out. Cherry picking with cashiers was another problem.

    Pros

    Berkeley Fry's manager is strong

    Cons

The other "managment" are the worst and have no respect for customers or themselves. They put enough gel in their hair to supersaturate it.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Fire the poor managers, Andy. You know who they are.

Former Employee - Cashier in Las Vegas, NV

I worked at Fry's Electronics part-time for more than a year

    Pros

It is easy to get hired, employee discount is worth using, breaks and lunches are mandatory

    Cons

All employees take on janitorial duties, all cashiers also work in the cafe, unscheduled and unauthorized overtime almost on a daily basis, managers and HR and security staff are allowed to choose favorite employees, favorite employees are allowed to take 2 hour breaks and make more commission, part time employees are not allowed to advance in the company.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Overhaul every aspect of how you operate a store. This is broken on every level. The people don't want to work here, the register and returns systems are outdated by at least 20 years. Favoritism and unfair commission practices run rampant.
