Pros
Competitive pay, not as much pressure as some other firms
Cons
Conservative - not likely to take risks.
Pros
The people are generally friendly and the atmosphere is not as intense as top-tier Biglaw.
Cons
Opportunities for growth are limited beyond the first several years. There isn't a lot of high-quality work passed down to associates, so it can be hard to grow beyond the junior associate phase (even if your job title eventually advances).
Advice to Senior Management
The firm needs to actively cultivate its next generation of leaders in professional and business development. There will probably be a number of people looking to leave once the job market improves.
Pros
The firm takes pride amongst other law firms
Cons
Slow movement for promotion within.
Pros
Great reputation. Exceptional history. Gained a lot of experience and work with exceptional lawyers.
Cons
Horrible benefits. Not "on firm" as advertised.
Advice to Senior Management
Equality among offices.
Pros
Management is fair - more fair than other places. Had a dispute with an office monster attorney and management listened. 99 percent of the attorneys were human - unlike other firms.
Cons
A couple of office monster attorneys left but maybe are gone now.
Advice to Senior Management
Thanks for the memories!
Pros
Litigation Support as a project assistant. Nice people to work for.
Cons
Management is unfair; not enough communication.
Advice to Senior Management
Be Fair.
Pros
The best thing about Fulbright is the name recognition on the resume. Because it is a very old law firm other companies and headhunters believe that anyone who worked at Fulbright must be a great employee.
Cons
Upper management called a meeting in the early part of the year stating that there would be no layoffs. Not more than 3 months later everyone new that layoffs were coming.
When the layoffs did come they laid off people that actually worked instead of the ones that were playing on the internet, watching American Idol and shopping.
Advice to Senior Management
Upper management needs to be honest with their employees instead of lying to them.
Pros
good assignments and experiences with partners and associates.
Cons
not great at the work life balance
Advice to Senior Management
more diversity and work life balance
Pros
Fulbright has a great reputation among its industry. Obviously, having Fulbright on a resume is appealing for other employees, thus strengthening one's credentials for future positions. The firm provides numerous opportunities within its practice groups. Particularly the IP&T group, work assignments and resources can be shared with other offices. The people are very professional and respectful. It was a pleasure working with the staff, who provided great support in getting applications and amendments filed on time. Fulbright offered a raise for passing the Patent Bar. They allowed me to take some time off for preparing for the exam. I enjoyed working with the IP Director and Sr. Attorneys, and thank them for their mentoring and training.
Cons
Although working there was a great experience, it was stressful at times and meeting the firm's expectations, especially if attending law school on a part-time basis. Definitely a learning experience.
Advice to Senior Management
Training was helpful and provided a new perspective to past training of mine. Sr. Mgmt. were very professional.
Pros
The firm is one of the best law firms in the US and the experience you receive at F&J is very valuable. In addition F&J has great training support and they value their staff. I have been with F&J for only one year but even after six months with F&J I have received $750 bonus and 4.5 % raise. Also, most lawyers are very respectful, meaning they will open doors for women...All in all a good firm to work for.
Cons
F&J has a number of different practices and some lawyers are difficult to work for. Also, work atmosphere is very conservative. Billable hours are very important which is important, but not always fun. I imagine that is how it is in every law firm.
Advice to Senior Management
Keep up the good work!
