  1. Great experience during Internship

    I worked at Future Electronics

    Pros

Learnt alot. Got to see actual implementation of concepts learnt at school. Was given a very interesting project. This company has a pretty good transportation arrangement for its employees living in downtown Montreal. There is a free bus service which leaves from near Concordia University and takes you all the way to Future Electronics's office in Pointe-Claire

    Cons

None actually. I guess if you're looking for an internship where you can slack off, not do much then this company isn't for you. People here are dedicated and there are reasonable expectations from you.

    Advice to Management

None. I has a wonderful time working for you guys

    Pros

Good location in the west island of montreal. Free parking, benefits and a well run company for the most part.

    Cons

Longer hours (8:30- 5:30) for worse pay the a competing company. Accounts seem random and unorganized. Many unhappy past customers.

    Advice to Management

Attract better quality people, by offering better wages.

    Pros

You will learn the definition of Micromanagement first hand. You will also learn what kind of companies you should stay away from and if you ever become a company owner, you will learn how to not treat your employees.

    Cons

This is the most horrible company I have ever worked for. It started by being lied to during the interview process. They will not tell you that the hours are from 8:30am to 5:30pm. They will also tell you that there are lots of room for career advancement. After being there for about 6 weeks you will learn that promotions are given to those who have been loyal to Robert and Frederick Miller for more than 10 or 15 years and who are just “puppets” that will bow their heads when in front of Robert Miller or his son. Also, it doesn’t matter if you bring lots of experience or university education. Most VPs and Directors have no education and have only worked at Future as was the case of my boss. For this reason they will not know how to utilize people with lots of potential. They are not afraid to treat you in a demeaning and demoralizing way if front of other co-workers and other VP’s. Part of their horrible management culture is to always find what is wrong and never compliment what you do right. As a territory sales operations manager I was always asked by my boss to tell him what the GM’s and outside sales people at the branches were doing wrong and to not give them a second chance.
Upper management has no decision making. Decisions are only made by the owner. There is no direction and their management style is that of fear, intimidation and bullying. Bosses are incompetent, non-ethical, unprofessional, cynical, demotivating, and arrogant and will encourage backstabbing and gossip as a way of evaluating employees on a daily basis. These unethical practices are transferred to most employees and it doesn’t take long before you realize that you can’t trust your own shadow creating a companywide negativity that results in sickness, misery, divorce, depression, etc . At the same time bosses will tell you that their job is to motivate employees and encourage productivity while making you feel good in the company which at the same time is offensive since you know they are lying to your face. And the most interesting thing is that 99% of all bosses share the same negative attributes which is why I believe this is a kind of a “cult” culture lead by Robert and Frederick Miller.
There is no family life balance. This is the most rigid and non-flexible company I know. For example, if you have a family crisis and you need 5 minutes, they will deduct it from your paycheck. Every single second is accounted for. Unless you have accumulated personal time or vacation time which you have to earn every month and resets to 0 at the beginning of every year. At the same time you are expected to work overtime which will not be paid or be given back in the form of time earned. You are still expected to work 9 hours the next day. Future doesn’t believe in give and take. You will feel like you are a slave in a prison even before you pass the only 2 employee entrances. Both entrances have security guards and revolving steel bars that can barely fit one person. They do that to know at what time you came into the building, at what time you left, and if you exceed your lunch hour by more than 1 second. There is no trust. And this rigidity also applies to managers, directors and VP’s without exception which I found ridiculous.
The other thing that makes it unbearable to work at Future is what is called the “Z strategy” which are e-mails that you send to your boss as soon as you come into the company at 8:30am explaining in detail what you are doing with every single minute of your day. At the end of the day, you are expected to send your boss another e-mail explaining again in detail what you did during the day. There are also multiple e-mails and phone calls during the day. You are under so much pressure due to this Z strategy that everybody uses the same e-mails in a rotating basis and lies about their jobs. Employees lie to their managers, managers lie to their directors, directors lie to their VP’s and VP’s lie to Robert Miller. The interesting thing is that Robert Miller talks, believes and insists that this is a great strategy.
Please do yourself a favor and believe the most negative reviews that you read as they are the only true ones. I lived in that nightmare for a whole year and even though I am a very positive person, it only took about 6 weeks to realize that I had made the biggest mistake in my professional life. If you see positive reviews that’s because they are written by people who do not have enough experience, ethics or qualifications to compare to other organizations or they are probably from people working at the branches which are somehow managed in a different way than people at the headquarters in Montreal.

    Advice to Management

None. Management has no decision making in this horrible company so it will be a waste of my time to give any advice.

    Pros

Good cafeteria, gym...could be a good place to stay till retirement if you're ok with a routine job

    Cons

Bureaucracy and nepotism is in the blood of company culture. A management team does nothing but overlooks employees and treat them as their slaves.
Most of work are purely processing and Inefficient, creativity is not encouraged.
Compensation is low vs. overloaded workloads

    Advice to Management

Fire half of the management team and then the company will have budget to grant all employees a raise

    Pros

Gym, 3 week vacation every year

    Cons

Low salary, overloaded workload, have to OT at home,
Even no windows in the office, no personal life, you have to work like a machine from Monday to Friday.
80% people are waiting for retire ,HR is always hiring someone who's stupid and slow and then management asks other teammates to help them.the faster you do, the more workload assign to you.
No any career opportunity for employees.

    Pros

Endless learning potential. Opportunity for career building and changing within one building.
Some of the best friends you'll ever have will work here.

    Cons

Upper management tends to be quite dreadful and most have had their souls removed. Having said that; some of the best and worst times of my life took place there. You have to make Future your experience and always remember, take as much from the experience as you can. Use it all to your advantage.

    Advice to Management

Too far gone. Being that high up; you've no choice really in order to stay there.

    Pros

You will definitely meet competent, professional and occasionally brilliant individuals. Too bad they don't last long.

    Cons

Where to begin? This is a wholly-privately owned corporation. Forget about any protection (through shareholder/public oversight) that you may expect from a properly-run publically-traded company. Paranoia reigns supreme and there are VPs and senior VPs that have only cronyism to thank for their positions, as most of them exercise what would be considered certainly unethical and borderline illegal behaviour in their day-to-day dealings.

    Advice to Management

None. They are broken beyond repair.

    Pros

An island of English speakers amidst an ocean of French. Multi-unit organization, with branches in over 150 countries. You will meet competent and interesting individuals. Some opportunities for growth, but reserved for cronies.

    Cons

There is no avoiding the politics. You are either "with us, or against us". Cronyism and nepotism run rampant. Consequently, management, including senior management is populated by paranoid, spineless, back-stabbing, often-incompetent sycophants who will suck the life out of any competent, ethical individual. Unethical and dubious business practices have resulted in ongoing attrition and the outright defections of strategic partners and suppliers. A revolving door of misery. Two stars allocated only due to the calibre of some of its workforce.

    Advice to Management

    None. You are broken toys.
