Advice to Senior Management
Make sure you worry about the employees and not so much about your bonuses
Pros
The pay is great, especially if you are in sales. The discount is fantastic; I don't know any other company that has people begging to stay on four hours a week. Your fellow front line staff are mostly wonderful, and helpful.
Cons
Store and district level management have poor people skills, and very little empathy. And HR is worse than useless, trying to throw you under the bus to advance themselves. The company pretends that they want leaders, but really want sheep that lead other sheep. Favoritism runs rampant. Be a top seller or you will be ignored. And if you are a top seller, there is nothing you can do that will get you fired. Integrity is said often and practiced rarely. It doesn't matter who you are, or how long you are with the company. The bottom line is the bottom line, and you will be cut loose when they no longer need you (from a current employee).
Advice to Senior Management
You want to keep talented operations staff? Don't cut them loose as soon as your district runs into rough times. Your customers still need their computers fixed, and they're more likely to be back if you're willing to spend a little on your techs so that they can make sure things are done as quickly as possible, rather than as efficiently as possible (meaning it takes a week to get to a computer, but there's always something to do). Here's a hint, cut your sales budgets by 20% and increase your hours by 20%. It needs to be done. Your techs are running themselves ragged trying to keep up.
Pros
if your on commission you make a lot of money. I worked part time, and came in after school, and sold computers. It was good for me but shitty for the full time people. I made just as much... or more a day working 4 hours from 5-9 then the full time people because not many people came in during those hours.
Cons
you have to push the warranty and thats all the the managers care about. They always had competitions to see who would sell the most warranty, and obviously the managers of that departments would get their bonuses. This was pushed heavily and always favored over customer relationships and doing the right thing. If you are a moral person you will have a tough time selling the crappy warranties that they offer.
Advice to Senior Management
make your employees feel more like a family
