I worked at GAF full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Good pay, friendly employees and production line supervisors. Opportunity for overtime is there if a senior person is not willing to take it. Company does make good quality product.

    Cons

Shady management, very old manufacturing building, dirty and hot environment, "safety is a priority" practices are overlooked around every corner. Hours are not stable because the company manufacturing is seasonal so they work you like a dog the first part of the year and then lay you off during the winter months. Quick to terminate probational employees. No room for new hires to advance unless the old timers retire or die.

    Advice to Management

Open your eyes, listen to the operators, and have a backbone. Spend a lot of money to upgrade the plant. Fulfill your promises to new hires and utilize the progressive counseling that is spoke of in the interview. Many employees state they don't know how it stays open and are just waiting on the day the plant closes for good.

I have been working at GAF full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Work-life balance is fine, depending on the group.

    Cons

A lot of mediocre people. There's an overall lack of structure and direction. Management has questionable ability to plan. Office culture is similar your sophomore year in HS. Business has been declining and losing market share for multiple years.

    Advice to Management

Realign incentives -- don't cut your employees bonuses in-half, slash SG&A spending (i.e. reduce your already narrow workforce), and then pay yourselves millions of dollars and think everyone will still be rowing in the same direction. Learn to create realistic targets; I understand mathematics may be a difficult concept for you to understand, but give it a shot and you may come within $500M of budget next year.

I worked at GAF full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Some very talented people. Used to be great place to work.

    Cons

Poor Senior Management. Run very lean. Poor benefits. Lot of cronyism at the top.

    Advice to Management

You claim that your employees are your biggest asset, yet your actions speak differently. You should really take a look at your culture, it's gone down hill.
