    Pros

I have met some really nice and genuine people. This job can provide opportunity to gain some skills to move on to another job.

    Cons

Senior management talks out of both sides of their mouths. You are often chasing after something that will shift just as you think you have reached it.

    Advice to Management

Be more honest and a little more transparent and you may improve morale and commitment.

    Pros

They like to work you hard, so a great place to learn new skills (at least on the east coast)

    Cons

There is virtually no monetary incentive unless you come in at a higher level

    Advice to Management

Learn to promote more heavily to those who are with your company longer and show growth potential -- especially those with transferable skills

    Pros

You get paid for showing up and dealing with incompetent fools on a daily basis.

    Cons

Management is a bunch of money grubbing idiots, who do not know the first thing about managing a company or people.

    Advice to Management

    Leave.

    Pros

    Young, intelligent people.

    Cons

Not much promoting from within. Hard work and intelligence is not recognized by upper management. You can work for five years and be a star and they will still keep you at the status quo.

    Advice to Management

    Recognize and retain good employees.

    Pros

It's the only job you can get.

    Cons

If you want to be paid the bottom 10% of what attorneys get paid, while doing mindless data entry (doing the same thing for the second or third time because management changed their minds about what they wanted...again) all while dealing with nasty competition for the teeny amount of promotions that will only be given to the people who go for drinks with the boss and throw other people under the bus for their own mistakes, then GCG is the place for you! Add to all this the constant fear of being laid off without notice at 4:30 on Friday even though you've been with the company (as a temp) for years, and you're in for a real treat.

    Advice to Management

Get your act together. Learn what the people below you are actually doing. Understand how claims review for each of the 500 different lawsuits you are supervising actually works. Actually listen to the people below you for a complete explanation of the problem before jumping in with a "solution" that doesn't make any sense and only makes things worse. Have an open dialogue with your employees about what the next steps are in each project and don't leave them in constant fear that they will be fired any minute.

    Pros

Generally, there is a congenial atmosphere among the lower to mid-level employees.

    Cons

Senior management, like most in corporate America today, is focused solely on the bottom line. It often seems that no matter how productive an employee is, more is always expected. Most salaried employees are expected to work a minimum of at least 50 to 60 hours per week, often including weekends and holidays, and uninterrupted vacation time is almost unheard of.

    Advice to Management

Come out of your offices and get to know the staff. Take a lesson from the former CEO who was so highly regarded. He made an effort to learn the names of many of the employees. Being more approachable can help to boost morale. As it is, most of the lower level employees seem to feel that the only time upper management speaks to them is when they criticize some aspect of their job performance.
