Pros
Great experience, leading edge technology, excellent coworkers
Cons
Middle management.. will not fire ANYONE.. focus on selling versus providing service
Advice to Senior Management
Get rid of the 20+ year people, they are making your organization stagnant.
Pros
GCI is very business oriented and employee minded. They provide competetive benefits and incentives and annually share profits with their employees when possible. GCI cares about their employee's families and offer time off when it's necessary. They also try to create fun events their employees can participate in and support the community with donations and allowing time off for employees to participate in community service.
Cons
I personally feel like I haven't been sufficiently compensated for the what I was hired to do and it was only recently that I figured this out.
Advice to Senior Management
I think GCI is a great company but I also feel that compensation review should occur more regularly and that an employee should be made aware when not being offered the industry standard at the very least for salary. I, on the other hand, should have asked more questions. It's not completely anyone's fault. I do believe that GCI is a good company to work for.
Pros
good people, relaxed casual environment
Cons
low pay, sr management disconnected and not supportive
Pros
Great culture, Great benefits, Great State of Alaska
Cons
GCI is a great company to work for. If there were a down side, I'd say it is the size of the company.
Advice to Senior Management
Great job on employee retention.
Pros
The company offers an employee monitoring program where discounts are received on products offered by the company. This can be a great savings to the employees monthly personal budgets.
Cons
Upper management gives the impression of listening to employees, but changes from the feedback are rarely seen.
Advice to Senior Management
Get employee feedback when going into new project. The people doing the actual grunt work should be able to put their two cents worth into a project before it's finalized so as to iron out any kinks before going live.
Pros
For the most part, the people that work there are great. There are some opportunities to advance and you can always move from one part of the company to the next. GCI benefits are among the best in Alaska and Human Resources are always there for you when you need it.
Cons
Upper management does not respect representatives enough and seem to not really care. It's always about the numbers instead of customer service. For example, the customer is always taken care of when a problem arises. However, if the representative was properly trained the problem would have not existed. The employees are not given much time off as well.
Advice to Senior Management
Listen to the "grunts" and base decisions from that. They are the face of GCI and they are readily available and can report problems. Have an incentive to report what problems they see such as trends that could be detrimental to the company in the long term. Forget about the short term remedy, that gets you no where. It's the long term growth that will push GCI further.
