    Year in and year out, GCR grows and provides employees with exciting opportunities and terrific clients to serve.

    With over ten years of employment to GCR, I can offer no cons relative to how the company has responded to me.

    Pros

    Good benefits and strong starting pay. Nice people to work with, has a smaller company culture. Not to far down the corporate wormhole, at the moment.

    Cons

    Lack of direction, fires start up from poor over site of staff. Over hiring, followed buy unearned loyalty. There is a disconnect between the project office and the home office. To many contractors who have no interest in the company, only looking out for themselves.

    Limited accountability for team members.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Need more over site of the staff. More accountability and less excuse making/accepting.

    Pros

    Nice view of the lake and the New Orleans skyline

    Cons

    Everyone passes the buck down hill. Managers have 'selective' memories when their budgets get tight or go over. "I know this is a low or loss budget contract, but do it anyway" followed by "What were you thinking, now we are not meeting our numbers and its 100% your falult'
    Human resources is nothing more than a pacifier. Something to go to when you have a problem or issue. Leave with a nice warm feeling but nothing really gets done.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Once a ship is skinking you can't do much about it.. The senior managment lives and works in VA. They keep the business incoporated in Louisiana for tax purposes.

    Pros

    Health benefits are great and 401k.

    Cons

    Underfunded. The company appears to be strapped for money, so they squeeze every last drop out of developers. No time for R&D. Mostly maintenance with a person holding a stop watch when you start. A great environment if you thrive under intense pressure and micromanagement. If you don't like to be micro-managed, then seriously consider looking elsewhere.

    Find ways to trim top earners bonuses. Make room for developer to grow and learn the product - you're chasing your tails with the high turnover rates.

    Pros

    Good 401k, they'll pay for you to get certified, or buy any book you want, and they do try to keep up with the latest software.

    Cons

    The majority of software projects here are very buggy, slow, ugly, and frustrating to work on. Most are disasters that nobody wants to be associated with and a finger pointing blame game. There is a lot of incompetence here and very little talent which shows in the end result.

    Weed out the large pool of incompetent and bloated middle management.

    Good people for the most part

    Cons

    Attorneys running technology projects. As a PM who respected developers comments I was told they were to do their coding and not be seen. They do not have the IT staff to be bidding on some of the jobs they bid on. Company motto, make money, make more money, make-up things to make more money.

    Get off your high horse!

    Very nice people to work with. The company looks out for their employees even if they are just a temporary contracter.

    Lack of communication, poor execution of projects leading to unhappy clients.

    Pros

    Great view of the lake, many talented lower level employees.

    Cons

    1. The non-management staff has no idea of the direction of the company.
    2. No 2 projects are the same, and by that I mean that their software development processes are so across the board it is difficult to move from one project to the other. This should sound exciting except that there is no time given for spin up or learning.
    3. Recently they laid of 4 of the older development staff due to mismanagement and lack of oversight of their teams.
    4. There is no standard development plan in place between projects.
    5. Will go after work no matter the staffing ability. It's a shoot first, apologize later environment.
    6. HR is not your friend.
    7, Problems roll down hill. I've never seen a group of people so skilled in passing blame off to lower level employees.

    Weed out your middle mangement. There is enough dead weight floating around to sink a ship.
