    Pros

Excellent relocation package Good for an engineer in the engineering departments. Not so good for a test engineer in supply chain Large organization (too large)

    Cons

Management is too transient: three plan leaders in 4 years. Leadership doesn't care about keeping a mission. Management is most focused on making themselves look good (making production numbers), and not on integrity. Leadership promotes people who don't know that job, but have a good "company image." Be prepared to be micromanaged! Benefits are average, expected better as one of the world's largest companies Compensation is lack-luster. Pay raises are paltry, if any. Leadership and management get first dibs, and they expect you work 10 hours of casual (=free) overtime a week. For a multi-billion dollar company, they are obsessed with nickle and dime-ing everything Everyone has the feeling that the place is going to shut its doors in the next few years. Buildings have been demolished, lay offs, site VP is a "closer" Promotions are only a possibility if you're a favorite of management Expect zero work-life balance. Expect the company to take away all PTO for high level exempt

    Advice to Management

Install a plant leader that is committed to the business, not committed to his/her next step after LATO Get rid of the 10 hour mandatory-casual OT policy

    Pros

Lots of really bright people to work with. Many different aspects of the design and manufacturing process on the same site, giving a lot of exposure to many different things

    Cons

Tends to be a lot of administrative red tape, which is to be expected with a big company. Can just take a long time to get anything done.

    Pros

As far as big corporations go, GE's one of the best out there for best places to work at based on: -opportunities for professional growth -a bunch of smart people to learn from -they put a lot of emphasis on right work/life balance

    Cons

Don't expect best salaries in the industry.

    Advice to Management

Do more to cut red tape.

    Pros

    - Competitive Pay - Flexible Schedules - Interesting Work - Huge Plant (not just engineering but also manufacturing is incredible at this location) -Good exposure to different aspects of the business

    Cons

Because it is a big company, tends to be a lot of red tape and procedure involved with getting anything substantial done. Can feel like your hands are tied a lot of the time.

    Pros

GE Aviation offers a great possible breadth of work experience and internal training GE has tuition reimbursement for higher degrees The workplace is generally a meritocracy, with nearly all employees interested in doing their jobs well For a design engineer, there are a broad array of challenging parts that need to be designed

    Cons

Department determines what type of work you get, there are good and bad departments Company has a huge amount of bureaucracy and some double work (engineers and drafters both make models) Workload is program dependent and management often puts in too short of a schedule, making it engineering's problem Crushing hours on some new product programs, 80-90 hrs/week at times with no bonuses or appreciation for exceptional effort Evendale, OH and Lynn, MA employees are compensated the same amount (cost of living much higher in Boston) Management stresses cost and schedule deliverable but does not place emphasis on employee development or job satisfaction I view GE as a very good place to work, but one needs to be very proactive. GE would be glad to pay you minimum wage and have you grind away on work at your desk, never giving you a higher title or significantly higher pay. If you work there you need to be actively seeking out your next position which will challenge you more than your current position. Otherwise you will get defaulted into the same role and no development, and have too much work put on your shoulders.

    Advice to Management

Focus on developing and rotating employees more. Identify what will keep employees working at GE, and focus on keeping them challenged and on a development path.

    Pros

GE Aviation has a great co-op/intern program with lots of opportunities for networking and a great support system. I was quickly trained and given plenty of responsibility.

    Cons

There was a lot of red tape in terms of onboarding (including getting set up on the computers and network). Site is large, which means lots of time wasted walking from building to building.
