Cons
A lot of initiatives at once, requiring juggling and switching gears.
Advice to Senior Management
Continue to innovate and seek ways to provide great experience for employees and customers.
Pros
Executive Development; ability to identify key leaders and grow them. Competitive compensation package inclusive of base, bonus, stock and options.
Cons
Life is like a box of chocolates. You never know what you are going to get. This is true in terms of managers.
Advice to Senior Management
Focus on key development potential as well as the ability to manage and maintain a bottom line. Focus on future growth.
Pros
Endless room for growth and knowledge
Very flexible as long as the work is done
Very team-oriented
Encourage you to experience different industries within GE Capital
Cons
Limit possibilities for junior level employees in different industries to interact with each other. This has been brought up and management is looking to find ways to accommodate this.
Pros
High calibre people
Interesting, broad and varied work
Huge number of opportunities to develop your career (especially if you're mobile)
Performance led culture
Feels like you can make a difference
Informal atmosphere
Global scale and reach
Cons
Demanding - hard to keep moving up the organisation and retain a work / life balance
It's so big it can be hard to comprehend
Advice to Senior Management
Keep it up, but try to improve the way for people to keep their careers moving up without committing everything to the company.
Pros
GE Capital creates many opportunities for leadership development and training that you do not find at other large multinational corporations.
Cons
GE has grown via acquisitions and has difficulties sticking with long term organic growth strategies. Because it is a conglomerate, many times there is not the domain expertise you would expect.
Pros
flexibility where you work, top modern systems
Cons
Everything is overly complicated and difficult. No onw can make a decision for fear they are wrong.
Advice to Senior Management
Empower employees
Pros
Great name
Global recognition
International best practice
Cons
lack of career opportunities
Bad work life balance
Advice to Senior Management
Wake up
Pros
Training - functional and leadership
Great co-workers
Diversified financial services background
Good work/life balance in most groups
Established company that looks good on your resume
Cons
Extremely weak compensation in light of markets in which it operates and expertise they demand
Extremely demanding with limited positive feedback
Limited career growth and development - largely political as opposed to merit-based
Very bureaucratic - used to be more flat pre-recession
Managers and senior management are constantly changing - making it even harder to get ahead (just as you get to know someone, they are already moving on and leave before the e-mail even goes out notifying staff of the change.
Advice to Senior Management
Stop giving lip service to career advancement/growth and start moving people upwardly around the firm. Lateral moves are great for management but annoying after a while for employees. Pay market wages. Start making GE Capital a fun place to work again and go back to your roots as opposed to this new sharky Wall Street like culture.
Pros
Work life balance, co-workers all very helpful and friendly.
Cons
minimal training, sink or swim mentality
