I worked at GE Capital full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Top notch colleagues, for the most part, and great resources. Benefits good, but pay a lot for them. Several outstanding leaders to learn from. Great training - company invests heavily in it, and the programs are the best there is. Pay is excellent.

    Cons

Very intense work environment; this intensity level and the hours required to meet expectations become challenging once you reach the age of around 50. Definitely a young person's company.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be careful not to burn people out. Hours can be very long - lots of people working on the weekends and at home in the evening. This is not sustainable over the long haul and people will leave.

    Pros

Good people/ great collaborative work environment

    Cons

Too big takes a long time to get anything done

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Number of years in company moving around does not equal leadership material. Get managers to be leaders and this will be a kickass company!

    I worked at GE Capital

    Pros

This company offers a lot of continued trainings, is open-minded

    Cons

That's a conglomerate and the mobility isn't as easy as it may be
If not graduated from internal excellence programs, might be hard to get fast promoted

I have been working at GE Capital as an intern (less than a year)

    Pros

Good feeder for full time FMP position. The culture in the office was helpful and friendly to the interns. Interns got work that was actually meaningful. Really great training.

    Cons

The training was great but there could have been even more. Some manager were more engaged than others.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep the interns busy with work that is meaningful. Make sure managers push for weekly meetings to catch up with interns.

I have been working at GE Capital full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

great people to work with, salary ok, online training opportunities, good benefits and vacation time

    Cons

Upper management gets the pat on back for all your hard work, micromanagement, lacking leadership, training for your job is half fast and you have to figure out the rest with limited resources and not too many willing to help further. then you're "spoken to" for making errors. lack of knowledge no excuse. Sink or swim attitude. Unrealistic expectations. lots of "pass the buck" "Simplification" has made it more difficult to meet expectations

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

if you're promoting leadership among your employees provide them with the tools necessary. Don't just say you're there to help develop people - put words into action. Learn to trust your employees are doing the job you hired them to do in the first place. If employee has done the job and has had great performance reviews there's no need to micromanage. It's counter productive and it discourages them from wanting to move ahead in their careers.
