Pros
Management is great. Very helpful in the sense of helping one move up into potential senior management roles. Fast paced working environment and a lot to learn in a little time.
Cons
There is not really much of a downside that I found with my time at GE. Just a lot of competition in regards to moving up to a senior management role, but it is not impossible either.
Pros
Work/life balance is encouraged as well as flexible work arrangements. Having the greater GE to tap into is a bonus; Fleet is small in comparison but the opportunities and perspectives we are exposed to is a plus.
Cons
Working within an organization where many functions report outside the building is challenging and makes communication difficult; different departments have varying goals and objectives.
Advice to Senior Management
Keep communicating, maintain integrity (words match actions); hire talent that can think outside the box.
Pros
- Industry Leader
- Renewed focus on customers
- Good changes at the leadership level
- Fleet now leverages all of GE to bring value to our customers
- Now making the right investments in the business to win now and in the future
- Clear vision and goals for the company
Cons
- Still too many people waiting for the good old days to return
- Needs to accelerate the hiring process... We have too many great paying jobs open
Advice to Senior Management
- Keep up the good work... You are really making progress
- Continue to hire people that have a broader background than just Fleet or GE experience to keep bring new ideas to the business
Pros
Competitive Pay
Great Advancement Opportunities
100% Tuition Reimbursement
Recognition for job well done
Bonus plan for Lead Professionals and above
Depending on the Dept, great R&R events
Cons
Constant Change
Always a Challenge waiting ahead
Senior Leader Turn-over constant
More work than hours in the day
Numerous Meetings
Advice to Senior Management
Have more stake in company, Management seem transitional - ladder to next role
Managers and Senior Leads that take time to get to know direct reports/employees is a plus!
Pros
Location, part of a larger organization
Cons
culture, leadership turnover & lacking a consistent vision
Pros
Dedicated to excellence and customer satisfaction
Cons
lots of management turnover - it's the GE way - is tumultuous
Pros
flexible work environment
good cross functional teams
strong operations
competent senior management
good experience to learn from
causal dress
large organization
Cons
Lots of pressure to sell
You are only as good as your last sale
Not a lot of opportunities to advance career
Advice to Senior Management
Maybe looking at employees as people rather than numbers. Offering support to employees when needed, and more transparency and openness rather than backstabbing
Pros
Major corporation with tremendous name recognition
Cons
Living on its brand recognition not innovation
Advice to Senior Management
Utilize some industry experienced individuals not just GE experience
Pros
Excellent resources to learn new skills and competencies on the job. Fantastic training provided by corporate. Good coworkers, very dedicated and smart. Good benefits, pays some tuition, cafe on site, fitness on site. Lots of opportunities to grow
Cons
Management has no clue on how to develop and manage a team. The responsibility of developing a team is not priority for management. Employees who are willing to learn new skills, and better understand the business needs are not seen as helpful. Management has the mindset of my way or the highway. They generally rate you as a poor prefomer if u don't do everything their way. ! These type of managers are the exception.I don't know how the keep their job.
Advice to Senior Management
Learn how to effectively devolop and manage your teams. Get serious about technology.
Pros
- Being part of the greater General Electric organization provides many diverse career opportunities in a variety of industries, functions and locations.
- General Electric supports employees with many training and career development opportunities, flexible working arrangements, and competitive salaries and benefits.
- General Electric has a very results-oriented culture and attracts some of the most talented individuals. I learned a lot during long tenure with GE working for multiple GE divisions.
- GE treats layoffs very seriously due to the high liability. This makes severance packages very attractive.
Cons
- The Fleet Services business is a poor representation of the larger GE culture. Unlike my experience in other GE divisions, Fleet Services is not a meritocracy as GE is for the most part.
- At Fleet Services it's all about a few key individuals (senior - mid level mgmt) who are the key opinion leaders in the organization - they make all the real decisions regardless of who actually holds the responsibility.
- Being part of GE Capital has been particularly stressful since the 2008 financial credit crisis and Jeff Immelt decided to shrink GE Capital. So now the Fleet Services senior leaders are "out for themselves" instead of the good of the company.
- The post-crisis atmosphere is one of fear, distrust and disappointment among most employees, making it a very negative daily environment.
Advice to Senior Management
Work on sharing information about the company health and direction more candidly and in a more timely manner with employees. Suppressing key details of the business strategy and financial reality from most employees only breeds rumors and kills motivation.
