Pros
Good pay
Good benefits
great team environment
great opportunities for challenge.
Cons
can often be under-resourced
can be complex to navigate
Advice to Senior Management
Continue regionalization and simplify processes.
Pros
Good benefits like pension, 401k, medical insurance (not great though), 20 days of sick leave, 5 days personal business, 3 floating holidays, 3 weeks of vacation time (4 weeks after 5 yrs), 9-80, salary comparable to best in the industry. Multi cultural company with world wide presence.
Cons
too many changes / restructuring, too much red tape-ism, too many managers (and adding), everyone is busy in preparing papers that look good instead of doing something good because that's what the management wants to see. Most top management is from non O&G background and try to use "one size fits all" theory.
Advice to Senior Management
Stop cooking the papers and promote the real work. Open the doors for trainig of employees that have been shut
Pros
Pay is generally very competitive
Challenging assignments
Work globally, exposure to a lot of different people
Cons
Work intensity is high - definitely work big hours to achieve the smallest task because of the complexity of the business
Many leaders without core technical knowledge - don't have to be Engineers, but need to be experts in their functions and good business leaders
Extreme competitiveness between functions, employees forget they are working for the same business and focus only on achieving their own tasks, sometimes at the expense of coworkers
Advice to Senior Management
Need to reduce the matrix and empower regional leaders to have ownership for all functions in their business by direct line management and reporting; cannot expect them to achieve without having authority
Pros
large corporation and rapid expanding
Cons
poor networking, management in-country in Crisis
Advice to Senior Management
please give attention the young talented guys regardless thier country of orig.
Pros
Great people, nice environment, decent remuneration and opportunity to climb. I get great feedback and a lot of leeway from my manager and support and recognition from senior management. The rewards and recognition system is so easy to use to reward your own team. They provide a sport facility.
Cons
Integrity and Compliance is an obsession, its stifling, overly bureaucratic (am I really going to win a contract by giving a customer a calendar or taking him to dinner?). Too many GE wide messages overload your inbox, functional organisation is chaotic - functions work against eachother, sometimes I wonder how we make $/£. Workflows for everything and have you tried claiming expenses??
Advice to Senior Management
Functional managers need to be more accountable for margin leak and their own issues, PMs cant fix it all.
Pros
Currently holds a pension program and great 401K and other benefits
Cons
No inside promotion with some sectors of the business. Promote and set incentives for employees who have tenure with company
Advice to Senior Management
Promote within the company and continue tenure with employees who have years of service experience and knowledge
Pros
good money to start out with.
Cons
no time off, not enough people.
Advice to Senior Management
hire more employees
Pros
Very good to learn develop management skills, good training classes.
Cons
No work life balance, no team spirit, very few Oil and Gas domain experts.
Advice to Senior Management
Being more aligned to the Oil and Gas Industry rather than GE.
Pros
Fast paced, energetic, benefits, looks good on your CV
Cons
politics, inexperienced mangers, long hours, penny pinching, short term views, more concerned about the share price than anything else!
Advice to Senior Management
Know the job before you try and manage the team!
Pros
Challeging, very com plex organization, high revenue, state of the art technology, global, multi culturalism, metric oriented, fueling innovation, immagination at work
Cons
very com plex organization, lots of diverse platform to link together, from project planning to mrp scheduler, to bill of material repository
Advice to Senior Management
It would be very valuable to have highly skilled management with a high technical domain knowledge, so decision making process would benefit
