    Pros

I believe GE is s company with integrity

    Cons

my experience with management revealed a complete lack of integrity. Big hype with no support. I received few hours of training, but I had questions that they glossed over by saying no one ever asked that. And I just throw you to the wolves, sink or swim. They are an employee mill, constantly hiring and blowing through employees hoping to get a few sales out of them before they leave.
I brought in a couple large accounts that they didn't want to even try because it required some work on their part

    Advice to Management

    Greater oversight of managers

    Pros

Massive company, great vacation policy, you can get to know a lot of people, great opportunities if you are CAS and play your political cards correctly. Another pro is that there are no real consequences (for most corporate employees) when you make a mistake.

    Cons

Extremely corporate and bureaucratic. Not a meritocracy. Hard work will not get you very far it all comes down to who you know.

If you are not CAS (Corporate Audit Staff) or a leadership program graduate you will not advance very fast or far. The company values its internal leadership programs over MBA degrees. Your external pre-GE experience also doesn't matter much to the company.

You are just a number and your job can be outsourced or moved just to save the company a dollar. Even though most employees get 4 or 5 weeks vacation it is because you work so much throughout the rest of the year. Poor work life balance and no flexibility in scheduling.

Also, there are a lot of workers that do the bare minimum just to skate by. Once annual review time rolls around, each worker in my organization gets the same tiny raise regardless of how much more they accomplished than their peers. The company does not reward hard workers. Your chances of reaching executive level are slim if you are not part of the CAS cult.

Expect to spend 75% of your time in meetings and responding to emails...and you will still be expected to get 8 hours worth of work done in the other 25% of your day. GE just recently redesigned the office to be more "modern" - In reality, they did it just to save a buck and reduce overhead. We are now sitting on telemarketer benches with minimal privacy. You will be sitting so close to your coworkers that you will constantly smell the variety of body odors and aromas throughout the day.

Corporate employees do not receive any bonus or incentive compensation unless you are executive level. Working here is like modern day slavery and they pay their army of lower level employees just enough to keep them in chains. It is just a matter of time until they replace you with someone from an "emerging market" that is willing to do the same work for 1/3 of the pay. As a result quality suffers and expertise is lost. No wonder the stock price has been flat for years.

    Advice to Management

Immelt's time has run its course. Time for a new CEO who will implement meaningful and real change. Stop treating employees like cattle. Stop hiring highly incompetent people.

    Pros

Great work/life balance and lots of opportunities for employees to get involved in projects as well as volunteer work.

    Cons

Has cyclical layoffs and employee morale drops for a year. Also, yearly performance reviews where you have no input on how your manager ranks you.

    Advice to Management

Get rid of top-down employee performance reviews and start having real discussions with employees.
