    Pros

The biggest pro: I get to work on products that are very unique and have a real impact on society A list of other pros: agile, teamwork is encouraged and appears to be a core value, steady flow of new projects, feels like a small company but has all of GE customers to sell to, and supportive management that really takes the time to help you develop the technical and the non technical. The free EV chargers and free drinks should be on the list of pros too.

    Cons

There is a lot going on so it is tough to keep up with anything outside of your department. No cafeteria and no gym.

    Pros

If you are passionate and do your job well, there is no limit to the travel opportunities and experiences you can have. At this GE location in particular it is possible to have a very direct impact on the quality of life of a large number of people.

    Cons

At this location change is a constant. It's good change, but don't get too used to where you sit or who you work with, or what you work on.

    Advice to Management

Product management of software is very different than product management of machines. Need a lot more maturity in this area to be world class.

    Pros

Great training and benefits. Modern management tactics leveraging agile.

    Cons

    Politically driven. Not a meritocracy.

    Advice to Management

Judge individuals based on performance and achievement and not by track, band or aqaintance. Offer part time remote employment options since most people don't live near San Ramon.

    Pros

    1. Good problems with lot of potential. 2. Potential to reach out to important folks on the field and change the world. 3. Good work/life balance.

    Cons

    1. The perks are not so good. Salary is below par with no stocks. Bonus is mediocre and not upto silicon valley standards. 2. GE is an old company with bureaucracy built into it. It was almost impossible to get any work done. 3. Most projects are about a fancy video/demo, with little or no real world application. 4. Lack of motivated colleagues was a big problem. Most people are here because they live close and are too lazy to move/look.

    Advice to Management

Value talent or else it will disappear. What is sold to an incoming candidate vs what he/she does is really different.

    Pros

People are smart, collaborative, nice and interesting. Multiple projects keeps things moving and fast-paced. Learning curve is good but manageable, some may or not be useful elsewhere. Flexibility and autonomy in terms of work and time, for the most part. Opportunity to work with great teams and learn different things with each. Some good managers and learning opportunities.

    Cons

Lack of telecommuting, not an interesting or reachable location. Some managers that are not accountable. Lack of clarity and unification around goals and processes, doesn't feel like managers really know what we do. Some processes inhibit work, surprising number of connectivity and other issues for a big hi-tech company.

    Advice to Management

Spend time working toward collaboration at a higher level, more transparency and fewer layers. Allow telecommuting where it's effective. Forget about the lunches and breakfast, or change them completely. Hot water in the kitchens of this huge and expensive building would be good, better care generally in the desks and treatment of workers.

    Pros

Great location if you live in the nearby suburbs. Very rigid cumbersome internal processes.

    Cons

Mediocre technical leadership. Awful senior management. Solutions leader built prof svcs org instead of software dev company. Only internal GE businesses use the software, grudgingly, because they're mandated to so. Platform not ready for prime time.

    Advice to Management

Advice to CEO of GE: your top leader in San Ramon is unsurpassed in pulling the wool over your eyes.
