I have been working at GEICO full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

GEICO provides associates the training necessary to be successful. You will also feel as if you are a part of a big family - everyone is very friendly and wants you to succeed. GEICO is the fastest growing insurance company, meaning that there are many opportunities for advancement.

    Cons

I cannot think of any cons. My experience working at GEICO has been a very positive one and I am very thankful that I have found a great company to work for.

I worked at GEICO full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

This was a great place to jump start my career and I was lucky to have a manager who really cared about helping me work towards my goals. I knew what skills I wanted to work on and asked for those opportunities to develop them.

    Cons

There are not enough resources to cover the amount of work they want to get done. Regardless if you're on the business front or on IT, there is an obvious shortage of human capital. In my experience, you don't get compensated for overtime- you're expected to just do it. Because of this, everyone is stretched very thin, become irritated, and hence, teamwork and camaraderie suffers. This is frustrating yet understandable; why would you want to help someone out when you're neck deep in your own mountain of work?

The office also needs a serious facelift. It still feels like a 1960s office, without the wide open space. I'd be embarrassed to show outsiders what this office looks like.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Offer more competitive salaries to retain good human capital. Add some more perks to the office- why isn't at least free coffee available?

Hire enough people to meet your plan needs. Overworking your employees without adequate compensation is the quickest way to lose your talent.

    Pros

High pay, low responsibility, you can enter in the morning knowing that you don't have to do anything especially mentally taxing

    Cons

don't learn anything of real value, employees unprofessional and joke around too much, employees put all their grunt work on you

I have been working at GEICO full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

Decent health care, good profit sharing, and OK time off, good sick and personal time policies. Lots of opportunities to learn and move within the company.

    Cons

Pay is not spectacular, building is old and crappy, dress code is outdated for analysts, and a number of your coworkers will be pretty dumb.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Improve the cons above.

I worked at GEICO full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

You will learn the objective of the role or position in writing, but in practice you will hit many obstacles due to unhappy staff with low morale all due to incompetent managers.

    Cons

Psychological warfare to not pay you your due.
Guilt trips if you have family or need sick leave.
    Organizational culture is the saddest.
    No inspiration or mentoring ever.
Management in most of corporate needs to be given the boot or required to get MBA's so they know how to run and manage a business.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Show some respect and pride when managing your group. Take prep classes on people skills and motivation. Be a role model not a fear monger. Cancer and high turnover are high due to some of your tactics...I saw it plenty when I worked there. I advise job seekers to keep looking for an opportunity NOT in GEICO.
Become an All State customer or Nationwide or Statefarm customer..

    Pros

It is a very stable company with promotional opportunities if you are willing to relocate.

    Cons

Upper management micro manages everyone that reports to them. Compliments aren't given as much as negative comments. They want to hire cheaper labor and encourage older associates to retire since retirement benefits are no longer offered.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop micro managing, encourage your associates to stay, improve morale, allow more associates in staff positions to telecommute and not just a few hand picked favorites.

I worked at GEICO full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

    1. Stable Job, good benefits
    2. Warren Buffet owns this company

    Cons

    1. Very old fashioned company
    2. "old boys" club in lower and middle management
    3. Many managers and leads do not have college degrees

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Please move people around. Many lower management folks are so comfortable in their positions, that they rarely do a good job. If it was not for the low compensation, you would not be able to make money with this crew that you have in place.
