Absolutely one of the worst companies to work for

Finance (Former Employee)
Frisco, TX

I worked at GENBAND full-time for more than 3 years

ProsLavish parties and vacations for senior management
Senior executives get lots of perks

ConsCompany has never met its targets yet continues to lavish executives with perks
CEO is a nice person but incredibly arrogant and never misses an opportunity to self promote
The strategy for the company is to expand to drive growth and then slash quickly when that fails

Advice to Senior ManagementWhen you are not hitting your targets cancel the Bora Bora trips and have your management meetings in a hotel conference room somewhere in Frisco
Stop pretending that you are the next big thing; Your business has shrunk every year for the past five years.. you just masked it with acquisitions.

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend – I'm not optimistic about the outlook for this company

Great emplyees in a company that lacks focous

Senior Technical Support Engineer (Former Employee)
Research Triangle Park, NC

I worked at GENBAND full-time for more than 10 years

ProsGreat employees.
Pay and benefits are good.
Severance packages are fair.

ConsSenior management prides themselves of managing by metrics.
They believe they can lay off their way to profitability.
The continuation of layoffs will result in an increasingly difficult work environment.
Excessive overtime effecting ones home/personal life.

Advice to Senior ManagementCapitize on the products and services that sale.
Reward the support and services groups not just sales and marketing.

Paid well from Nortel days but works employees to the bone

Sales (Former Employee)
Frisco, TX

I worked at GENBAND full-time for more than a year

ProsPay was very good but that was carried over from Nortel
Great working level people

ConsMoved from a 400 to 2200 employee company but did not change many of the processes so logic was to go figure it out yourself.
Work load was crazy with 70+ hour work weeks and was getting worse
Could not move the Network Transformation past the Tier 3 market with little competition

Advice to Senior ManagementListen to your employees and take action from the most experienced and not on market trends
Try "Undercover Boss"

toxic environment-low morale, high turnover

Finance (Former Employee)
Frisco, TX

I worked at GENBAND full-time for more than 3 years

Prosfitness room in Plano & Frisco, finance has monthly fajita lunch, day off for community service, some great people at the lower levels

Consno value for individuals, mgmt as a whole lack people skills and decision-making ability, revolving door for workers-good people keep leaving, too many consultants, spending goes unchecked

Advice to Senior ManagementFocus on getting financially healthier and not just bigger. Curb the spending and compensate your employees based on the co size and market. Flatten the organization-too many layers.

Good place to work and learn

Senior Engineer (Current Employee)
Research Triangle Park, NC

I have been working at GENBAND

ProsChallenging work, great and talented people, and a good place for graduates to get their bearings. With the acquisition of Nortel's CVAS BU, this has given Genband the bulk it needs to be a serios contender in the telecom industry.

ConsMore and more R&D work is being sent to non- North American sites. This is largely an effort to squeeze cost from the product line.

Advice to Senior ManagementConsider incubating more innovation rather than focusing on cost reduction as part of network transformation.

Lack of Competence in MGR and VP

Finance (Former Employee)
Frisco, TX

I worked at GENBAND

ProsPeople that were not VP/Director level roles, personalities were really a pleasure to work with

Cons- Lack of recognition for working 60 hours plus
- FP&A Manager had no technical aspect or grasp of systems used in order to perform financial results to senior leadership
- TOO Many Frito people... the "I'll hire you if you get a good job down the line" was ever present in the Finance department
- Senior management was very stand offish, never related to people actually doing the work

Advice to Senior ManagementGet a grip and realize that GENBAND is not as big as you think in the industry... stop spending money on Golf tournaments that do little or no good to the people that actual make the wheel go round... and finally... BORA BORA... really

GENBAND Day of Service

ConsNot sure if there's opportunities for advancement within or migration from one career path
to another
