I worked at GEO Group full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The prisoners are fairly easy to get along with making the job more pleasant than not. There is an Abundance of overtime. You will make a lot of good friends among your coworkers.

    Cons

The prisoners treat you better than the staff. The stress level is extremely high (because of the staff) Policy and procedure are two different things. Employee rules are constantly changing per convenience of management so you never know where you stand. They are highly understaffed therefore employees are constantly at risk. There are many "incidents" that are simply swept under the rug. They will hold you against your will, after your shift ends to force overtime. They will lock the gate or lock you in between doors. They are constantly threatening to fire you, or to take away vacation time that you have earned. You are expected to make up for their lack of managing skills.

    Advice to Management

Without the employees you would NOT have a company!! Stop treating the prisoners better than your staff. Hire management that have people skills. Perhaps you could take a few courses yourself.

I have been working at GEO Group full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Good job to add to your resume if looking to move up in the criminal justice field

    Cons

Poor training. High turnover rate due to training. Coworkers give you more problems than inmates.

    Advice to Management

Hire better qualified individuals. Raise pay every six months. Some people been here for over 10 years and still make the same as rookie. Smh

I have been working at GEO Group full-time

    Pros

Working to improve the lives of the offenders is extremely rewarding. I enjoy coming to work each day. Staff for the most part are fantastic to work with and they are always helpful.

    Cons

The only con to me is my position requires a degree, the other teaching positions don't require a degree yet the pay is the same.

    Advice to Management

Get to know your staff better and I believe the minor problems could be resolved.

I worked at GEO Group (More than 3 years)

    Pros

This is an industry which they possess a good reputation in and that will never go out of business. Corrections is a growing population.

    Cons

The turnover rate is extremely high from entry level to executive. Unless you work for the corporate office in Boca Raton your desire to really progress within the company are slim. There are opportunities to move within the facility but the pay scale doesn't change much just the position. The staff is underpaid within the facilities and they are over worked.

    Advice to Management

Pointless to provide advice as it will NEVER be adhered to.....
