ProsThe flexibility in the area I worked to take care of personal things and, for instance, leave work early was great. The camaraderie between all the workers in my group was great also. The work environment was always professional but never stuffy or too strict. My managers were a pleasure to work for.

ConsThere was not much work to occupy my time, and the possibilities for advancement or leadership development were very slim. If you're a hard charger looking to really move up, then this might not be the company. However, GFI is a Wall Street company and did experience layoffs during the recent downtown. That certainly contributed to a lack of growth opportunities.

Advice to Senior ManagementMore regular work feedback would be useful as well as perhaps a career roadmap of sorts. If the position doesn't provide much room for growth, it is important to communicate that to the interviewee.

ProsNice view. Nice building. Nice location. Nice perks with business expenses, dinners, events, etc. Stone street isn't far. Nice people.

ConsPay is not on oar with the rest of the industry. Certain managers can be abbrasive and not helpful as they should be.

Advice to Senior ManagementRaise brokerage fees to meet the industry standard. More lenient expenses policy would be nice. Managers should empathasize more with brokers

ProsFun place, good benefits and spending account.

ConsBad training, they will hire anyone to be a broker. Tons of cute looking moron waitresses.

Advice to Senior ManagementBetter training. Have managers be on the desk.

ProsGood benefits, perks and environment to work at. Great place to learn and have your first position and establish yourself.

Conslots of traveling, none defined training so it depends on your manager if youll move up. The person that trains you might be a moron and you still have to listen to them.

Advice to Senior Managementhave a better training program, 401k and more integration amongst employees. Also have the cleaning staff really clean the place.

ProsWork is challenging, and you are allowed to experiment with technology (within limits). Get to wear multiple hats during SDLC and found majority of the colleagues to be very technically competent. Overall great environment to work in.

ConsAs with any other small company, opportunities to move up the corporate ladder are slim to nothing.

Advice to Senior ManagementShould move away from flat structure, it's not working. I don't think upper management recognizes this fact. Team leads need to be specified explicitly and recognized, rather than hoping for someone to raise-up and take charge.

Current Employee – been working at GFI Group full-time for more than a year

ProsNice group of people to work with

ConsManagement is "small time". No one from a big Wall Street firm to lend perspective.

Advice to Senior ManagementHire someone in Head Office who has worked for a big firm.

ProsIts fun, good location close to Liverpool St, possibility to move through the different products and learn, big investment and technology. Good salary and holidays.

ConsBrokers don't like screens, some management only supports it from when it starts to be profitable.

Advice to Senior ManagementComunicate more with middle management. Some of you have to look at the bigger picture, you have to sow before you collect the fruits...

ProsGreat Tech, innovative management, good work environment, International presence with ambition to go out more. Great tech allows you to get into products you normally wouldn't see.

ConsAbsolutely the worst payout structure in the Street. If you have good clients look away at other shops before going to them. GFI feels its because of GFI that you are successful and not because of your relationships. If they offer you stock options, run. Pay a good money for a lawyer before you sign their contract.

Advice to Senior ManagementYou have lost some good employees that have left and gone on to make incredibly more money because of your low payouts. Bump it up and they will come.
