I have been working at GHD full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Good pay and above average benefits. I work out of a remote office that was bought out by GHD a few years ago, so it still has that small company feel.

    Cons

Some projects involve way too many engineers from multiple states and/or offices. It's hard to get them to make a timely decision on issues encountered in the field. It can take weeks to get an answer on trivial things that could have been worked out locally and in a few minutes. The management structure is complicated, it's hard to tell who's in-charge of what. Also, GHD has too many acronyms for things, if you work here you know what I'm talking about!

    Pros

    Great people and team players.

    Cons

Managment Oversold Opportunity, Company doesn't have bandwidth to support growth.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Time to evaluate business units relative to the business functions of GHD. Departments with un-qualified staffing must partner to meet the needs of the normal job functions.

I worked at GHD full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

They have a great hiring policy which, for most cases mean they hire great people. Sometimes the skill of hires is questionable, but 9/10 times they are good, approachable people that are a good fit for the team. To add context I enjoyed working there and left simply for a change.

    Cons

The pay is average at best, and further to this after working there for over 5 years, I only ever got 1 pay rise for which I didn't have to fight for, regardless of position promotions. As of July 2014 management seemed to be shifting the culture towards less concern for employees, which used to be one of the greatest qualities of GHD.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Focus less on immediate and short term profits and more on staff engagement for long term reputation and profit. It is the staff who face clients, so if they feel overworked and underappreciated this will be projected to clients through face to face meetings, proposals and written communication. In addition, while the economic climate is tough, as management you need to do, or at least appear to be doing an exceptional job to keep the company, which is just your employees and the GHD name, happy and functional, not simply hide behind the economic Climate as an excuse for every unpopular decision.

I worked at GHD full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Great people (although they've steadily been leaving over the last year or 18 months). Good systems, great training and support for young staff in particular. Great variety of work and plenty of opportunities to travel and switch roles (again, particularly if you're young). Good Christmas parties! Good policies around flexible working hours (although the hours are long), good policies around extra leave. Great return on equity if the senior management like you enough to make you a shareholder.

    Cons

I left for a change of scenery because I didn't like the change in culture and direction of management decisions. No reward (pay/bonus) for working to a very high standard, additional hours, etc. Impossible to get a pay rise in the last five years unless you had another higher offer. Good policies around equality that do not translate into real action in terms of pay equality and promotion of female staff. Difficult to get anywhere unless you're a favourite of the senior management (i.e. drinking buddy). Management focus on utilisation above all else, resulting in poor decisions around redundancies. Difficult to make shareholder unless you do some serious sucking up.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Look after your people. The best ones have steadily been leaving, resulting in a mediocre company only few standout talents left.

Not an Employee oriented company as how it promotes itself! Employees who not shareholders are not treated fairly.

I worked at GHD full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Provides training where required; however the expectations are very high after completion of training.

    Cons

if you dont drink with your boss on Friday drinks and other social gatherings, you are not in the circle and you will not be treated well.
The hardworking you are the less likely that you will be appreciated.
Bludgers are welcome if you are a favourite of the boss!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Train your senior managers to having people skills specially to act like a professional at all times! Train your senior managers how not to gossip all the weaknesses of the people in his team.
