Worst management team, one of the most stressful minimum wage jobs i have ever had.

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

I have been working at GNC

ProsIf you love fitness, its amazing to learn about everything like herbs, suppliments etc. Good way to Help people.

Consminimum wage, small commission amounts on items, but GNC takes a percentage of it "GNC qualifier deduction". You will constantly strive to not get in trouble for what everyone else does. You have to push GNC products on everyone to make your percentages multi's, vitapaks, powders..

Advice to Senior ManagementLook your part, be business oriented. Dont take sides, or play politics.

Sales the most important thing

Sales Associate (Former Employee)

I worked at GNC part-time for less than a year

ProsChance to make decent money if you're good at selling.

ConsSales are more important than helping people. Customers see this and it makes them hate you.

Advice to Senior ManagementFocus more on what the customer needs.

ProsYou are selling high quality, pharmaceutical products that go through extensive testing and quality checks.

ConsNo payroll hours for training. Employees are set up for failure.

Not as fun as you might think

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

I have been working at GNC

ProsWork alone most of the time, so you get some experience what it's like to run a store. Also the discounts are pretty nice on closed-dated items. Great second job.

ConsSales depend on location. Unattainable sales goals. Will often have to recommend products upper management wants you to sell, and its not even what the customer was coming in for.

Advice to Senior ManagementRespect your employee's and listen to them, they know more than you think.

low, low pay and high expectations for not much reward

Sales Associate (Former Employee)
Tuscaloosa, AL

I worked at GNC part-time for less than a year

Proslearned a lot about nutrition and health

Conslow, low pay (minimum wage), no benefits, high expectations to stalk people as they come into the store, creepy

Advice to Senior Managementyou expect way more than you give, and you charge too much for your products that are over-hyped

Used to be a wonderful company to work for, now it's heading in the wrong direction.

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

I worked at GNC full-time for more than 8 years

ProsHelping customers improve their lives. The pay used to be really good but new managers are getting hired in for way less money.

ConsVery stressful environment thanks to out of control job demands and sales goals. Tenured managers are being replaced for cheap labor. They have replaced a lot of very good and knowledgeable employees in the past couple years for people who can "sell" but can not run a store. Those new people end up not cutting it and having to be replaced with part time employees that were not ready for management. It is a vicious cycle that is getting worse and hurting the company.

Advice to Senior ManagementTheir are some employees who truly care about the company and the customers. Show them you appreciate them.

Great Entry Level Job for Managers or Sales Staff.

Store Manager (Former Employee)
Mobile, AL

I worked at GNC full-time for more than 3 years

ProsGreat training on how to sale. GNC Likes to promote within, so if you sale well, and the products you are trained to sell, you can move up fast.

ConsTough sales goals. This is not a place to work if you are nervous about engaging customers or easily demotivated by difficult customers. If you have a fun attitude, and you like working hard, you will get a lot out of GNC.

Advice to Senior ManagementTake a harder look at your best employees. They might be better than you realize.

Good learning experience

Retail Store Manager (Former Employee)
Gadsden, AL

I worked at GNC full-time for more than a year

ProsFreedom and little supervision. Learn a lot about nutrition ans supplements.

ConsGNC discourages selling to improve your bottom line. Key Performance Indicators make no sense.

Advice to Senior ManagementIf you don't want to sell third party products, don't carry them.
