Pros
401k is decent, good holiday pay. Nice employees and most management is nice and fair.
Cons
Pay is low to start and I had to really fight to get fair raises. Lack of upward mobility unless you are willing to relocate. Had to work a lot of overtime on short notice because we were always short-staffed. Outsourcing tech support to india when gtech's own software breaks really sucks. I spent so much time on the phone talking to Satesh, Satish, Govindarajan, etc. and it is not an easy task.
Pros
My coworkers are very competent and supportive. Lots of freedom and not much micromanagement from our direct supervisors. Good advancement opportunities if willing to travel.
Cons
Upper management either has no clue or no empathy for those of us in the field. The last few years they have increased the workload, lowered the bonus, and effectively taken the focus away from sales with all the non-sales tasks they have assigned to us.
Pros
Overall it's better than most.
Cons
Not enough vision going forward. Too much old technology.
Advice to Senior Management
Upsell.
Pros
Honestly, the only good thing I had while being with G Tech was the benefits.
Cons
Gtech Printing corporation had to be one of my worst working experiences ever. The customer service reps and office people keep piling on orders to the press department and packaging, however there is lack of communication to these departments on how to run their so called 43 million dollar equipment. The CEO of the company never shows his face in the plant but instead has interviews to the company via Internet on the companies break room TV. The paper rolls that are used for printing their product get wasted on a daily basis as well as the inks. Maintenance dept. Never regulary services the machinery and constantly is running into troubleshooting they don't solve. (I witnessed maintenance employees resign). The Leads and 75 percent of the people on the floor can't speak proper English (which also is another reason for lack of communication). The company also ensures their customers quality, but there is no quality team set in place and management overlooks product sent out the door. If I was a customer or person considering employment at Gtech Printing Corporation I would think twice. I truly don't believe they value their people as much as they make it out to seem like. Don't get me wrong the company makes a killing of money but most of the employed in that plant won't see much of it. They didn't even give raises for almost 2 years straight. You will be lucky if they buy you lunch or safety shoes and that's about it.
Advice to Senior Management
Hire management who is going to step up to the plate and not strikeout.
Pros
Opportunity for technical staff to be challenged professionally.
Cons
Understaffed and the company expects everyone to do whatever it takes to get the job done - hero mentality. The job comes with 60+ hours as the norm - impacts personal life significantly.
Advice to Senior Management
Work to acheive a better work/life balance. Communication from Sr. Mgt. is minimal - talk to us!
Pros
The people were wonderful and they had great benefits.
Cons
Low salary. Our state lost a state bid and I lost my job.
Advice to Senior Management
More advice or help when states lose a state bid.
Pros
GTECH can be a fun place to work, if you are on the product development, deployment side of the house, it is fast paced, exciting, and cutting edge. If you enjoy travel, technology, fast paced environment this is the place for you.
On the operational side of the house it can be challenging to effect change for the better. This is the gaming industry and excitement should be par for the course.
Cons
Teamwork and interdepartment relations can be challenging. Technical change internally can be challenging, which surprises a technologist.
Advice to Senior Management
Get to know more of his people. Challenge all his Directors and Managers to ensure that their people are taken care, financially, technically for their position, knowledge sharing and gaining, and challenge all departments to begin finding ways to share and streamline processes. All departments create knowledge, and no department is willing to identify commonalities in knowledge creation and sharing.
Pros
Easy money, low-stress environment, decent benefits.
Cons
No training program, no competitive pay, poor (if any) communication from upper mgmt., no advancement.
Advice to Senior Management
Give your workers some incentive to stick around awhile. We service machines from various manufactures, but get paid less than companies who just service their own. Devise a structured training program. Promote accordingly- an employee should not be doing the lead's work without receiving the lead's pay. Offer something other than excuses.
Pros
Good benefits
Good culture
tight knit group of employees
Cons
Difficult at time to feel like you're making a difference
Senior management achieved their positions because of time in job, not people-management skills
Disorganized in planning
Advice to Senior Management
Listen to employee concerns and take action when necessary
Challenge the status quo - try something new
Take a look at the people you're losing becasue you're not doing this
Pros
competetive salary, good envrionment, career opportunities, talented coworkers, relocation opportunity, located in downtown, felxible work hours, supportative management, work/life ratio, interesting projects in luctracive industry, paid phone, internet, books and certification examns
Cons
stresfull toxic working atmosphere, incompetent lower level management, slow technology adoption cycle, bad performance feedback, struggle for positions inside company, rigid development process - strange or nonexistent methodology, once familiar with project teher's no opportunity to expand knowledge, managmenet does not foster creativity.
Advice to Senior Management
opportunity for new/pet projects or Microsfot/Google 20/80 ratio. Interpersonal relationship courses for lower management.
