    I worked at GUIDESTAR

    Pros

Had a great boss who was very understanding of my being a full-time college doing part-time work and was very trusting of my ability to do the work.

    Cons

A lot of busy work as a researcher, but the work is all necessary to keep the quality Philanthropedia's recommendations.

I have been working at GUIDESTAR

    Pros

With very few exceptions, those who work at GuideStar are passionate, caring, and dedicated. Though the culture has changed under new leadership, new and innovative ideas are flourishing. The company is growing, but also recommitting to its roots--serving the nonprofit sector. Perhaps most importantly, though, knowing that your work is contributing to a strong, efficient, and effective nonprofit sector is the most fulfilling component of working at GuideStar.

    Cons

There are a significant amount of changes that have occurred and are continuing to occur. These changes, for the most part, are needed and appropriate changes, but the transitions can be a bit strained. Change is hard and lots of change is can really hard.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Invest more strategically and purposefully in a diverse employee base. Make a commitment to incorporating diverse backgrounds and individuals at all levels of the organization--particularly in leadership. To serve the diverse nonprofit sector effectively, this is necessary.

    I worked at GUIDESTAR

    Pros

It's engaging work that gives you an opportunity to learn a lot about a specific field of interest you might have -- their studies of non-profits range from arts and culture to animal rights. They provide lots of opportunities for you to pick the projects you'll be working on, and the types of tasks that you do really vary, so it's useful experience for a number of contexts.

    Cons

Much of the work is done remotely, which might not be appealing to some people. Internal communication is not always fast either.
