I have been working at Gap part-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Nice coworkers and managers. Easy to get time off. enjoy helping customers.

    Cons

Hard to get hours. they are always hiring. Too many employees. Everyone is lucky to get 1 or 2 shifts per week. In order to get a break you have to work a 4 hour hour shift. Our manager schedules everyone 3 hours and 45 minutes so he does not have to give anyone a break. He calls people in offering them a four hour shift, then cuts the last 15 minutes. now they are giving us 3 hour shifts. It is hardly worth the time and gas to drive in. The clothing has been difficult to sell. The styles are horrible. I was told they fired their designer and the styles would get better this fall. I am looking forward to that.

    Advice to Management

Treat your employees better. Most of the good employees find better jobs. You wouldn't have to keep hiring if you just treat your strong sellers better.

    Pros

The employee discount and benefits are great. My supervisors are nice, and the work is really simple. they're beginning to have everyone cross-trained in multiple departments witch is great because it allows you to work a bit extra if you want to.

    Cons

I do not get nearly enough hours. I can go weeks with only working a single four hour shift. I wouldn't have anything negative to say otherwise.

    Advice to Management

Only hire people that you can afford.

    Pros

At least at my location (and from what I've seen from other stores) managers are always there to help and motivate. Very flexible when it comes to scheduling, that of course if you let them know in advance.

    Cons

Not too many hours and not very competitive pay.

    Advice to Management

Do not hire new people if you're not giving enough hours to your employees.

    Pros

They work around your schedule When business is slow, hours a cut, drastically Opportunity to learn almost every aspect of retail Great environment with awesome managers. High quality of customers

    Cons

WIth any job in retail, management shows favoritism Too much work for little pay Opportunity for promotion is limited. Management's never on one accord. The push to force people to sign up for credit cards.
