I have been working at Garden Ridge part-time for more than a year

    Pros

They really try to work with your schedule. It is a decent job if you are trying to go to school. The pay is also decent.

    Cons

The new switch over is getting ridiculous. They put people on freight who should not be there and looked over people who deserved a promotion.

    Pros

Current District Manager is very supportive

    Cons

Company is re-branding and often the direction from up top is confused and conflicts with the new culture. Pay is below market for same sales volume

I have been working at Garden Ridge full-time for more than a year

    Pros

executive leadership has great vision, taking the company in a great direction for future sales and career opportunities.

    Cons

Company is still working on stream lining operations, seems like a good plan going forward. heavy freight and a huge store to operate on very lean payroll. disconnect between store operations demands and corporate demands.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

store management needs to be freed up from daily tasking, and freight processing, receiving, to focus on staff development, merchandising. also ability to react quickly to merchandise needs of a location to satisfy customer demand and service. District Management needs to more time spent on store reviews, to review positive results as well as negative results, and develop performance review process, to support GM in developing team in a consistent and positive manner.

    Pros

Doesn't take much to get hired on if you have open availability.

    Cons

They change policies all the time,no raises unless you're moving up to another position, and you lift slot of heavy merchandise in a very hot or cold environment.

I have been working at Garden Ridge full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Decent initial pay. Good people to work with.

    Cons

Unrealistic expectations. New owners have a grand vision for the company in hopes of an IPO and selling it. Putting their own stamp on it and changing everything in the company to support the IPO. Unable to terminate employees to keep turnover low, no 401k, no performance increases, or raises at all. Total disorganization due to the change direction of the company. No one really knows what is going on at corporate. Current employees are just trying to survive the change.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Slow the changes down so stores can catch up. We know they are coming, but to have massive changes weekly is ridiculous. Change is inevitable, and difficult, but unless you want everyone to quit, slow down the pace. Changing the name and painting the building is just whitewashing the problems the company has so you can parachute out when you sell it. Value the people that have kept it running before you got here more.

    Pros

50 hours a week, good pay and great people to work with

    Cons

They are strict about missed days and even if you have doctors note it wont matter much

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I was a great employee and there was another also she was awsome we were both fired due to occurrences we both had doctors notes and families and now we r hunting for a job. Maybe u should get to know your good employees. I had been there 1+ years.

I have been working at Garden Ridge full-time for more than a year

    Pros

The company is going through some changes and everything so far has been an improvement. There are growth opourtunities available.

    Cons

Salary is always an issue. However with the new CEO we are seeing things change for the better. Hot old buildings, poor conditions, lack of training materials.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I have been with the company for almost two years and no raise. There should be a review phase and compensation increases. Personal Improvement Plans should not just exist they should be utalized not filed away in a drawer. Employees are not flocking to Gardenride so keep the ones willing to stay.

    Rude customer service from management

    Former Employee - Anonymous Employee

    I worked at Garden Ridge

    Pros

Decent pay. Decent discount. That's it.

    Cons

Management has favorites, and will only appreciate what those workers do. The GM and co manager have an extremely difficult time saying thank you. No respect for the customers (I have actually witnessed managers purposely avoid helping a customer.) Poorly ran store. Need to start over with a completely new management team.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Fire the GM and hire a manager that knows how to be a professional.
