I worked at Garden Ridge full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

flexible schedule, friendly Management, and good stable company.

    Cons

Limited growth, management slow to move, advancing technically is limited as there is no time assigned for learning.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen to recommendations from your team lead and be open to new ideas. Don't second guess your team. Support the same ideas across the entire team. Learn who knows what, instead of pointing the finger at someone for something they did not do.

I have been working at Garden Ridge

    Pros

Employee discount which is 25% and for the most part a lot of good people to work with

    Cons

The training is not set up very well and they keep people they shouldn't.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

More organization and give more authority to the managers in the store

    Pros

Good people to work with, nothing too difficult

    Cons

I would highly advise not to think of making a career out of working at a store because many people get trapped working there, however it's a good part-time job.

    Pros

They really try to work with your schedule. It is a decent job if you are trying to go to school. The pay is also decent.

    Cons

The new switch over is getting ridiculous. They put people on freight who should not be there and looked over people who deserved a promotion.

    Pros

Employee discount. Yes that is the only one.

    Cons

Poor management, constant nonsense changes, micro-management, poor execution of changes that are rolled out, lack of focus, 1000 emails a day 90% are useless. No pay increase as promised. District Managers are poor leaders and will throw you under the bus. Hot old run down buildings. Rebranding to At Home does not help with the same leadership.

I have been working at Garden Ridge part-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Better pay than Walmart or Target for part time

    Cons

Everything was awful. A store the size of a Walmart with 12 total employees. Screaming managers. No working phone line. You had to call corporate to call in sick and then you would leave a message and half the time corporate would never tell your actual store you weren't coming in so the store managers would always call you screaming about how you didn't call out. They would close the store with only one person up front watching all the lanes and it was generally not safe at all.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Upper management is the people who forced the terrible ideas. They should honestly all take a class in customer service or be fired.

    Pros

Current District Manager is very supportive

    Cons

Company is re-branding and often the direction from up top is confused and conflicts with the new culture. Pay is below market for same sales volume

  10.

    Pros

executive leadership has great vision, taking the company in a great direction for future sales and career opportunities.

    Cons

Company is still working on stream lining operations, seems like a good plan going forward. heavy freight and a huge store to operate on very lean payroll. disconnect between store operations demands and corporate demands.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

store management needs to be freed up from daily tasking, and freight processing, receiving, to focus on staff development, merchandising. also ability to react quickly to merchandise needs of a location to satisfy customer demand and service. District Management needs to more time spent on store reviews, to review positive results as well as negative results, and develop performance review process, to support GM in developing team in a consistent and positive manner.
