    Summer Intern

Software Engineer (Former Employee) Olathe, KS

ProsExcellent Cafeteria, Plenty of intelligent people to work with. Everyone I met was always extremely friendly and willing to go out of their way to help me with what I was working on.

ConsAt times it felt like I wasn't really being trusted with very complex tasks. It seemed at the time as though they were underestimating the impact that smartphones would have on the navigation division.

Do Not Work at the Call Center to Try to Get Your Foot in the Door

Product Support Specialist (Current Employee) Olathe, KS

ProsGarmin is a great place to work as a company. They have great benefits, an awesome Winter Ball, and take the company to World's of Fun once a year. Besides a lower salary, the company does try to take care of its employees.

Cons-Micromanaged if you are under the attendance policy
-Very difficult to get out of the call center to persue other jobs
    -Very slow in promotion
    -Salary is OK

Advice to Senior ManagementGet rid of the attendance policy. It causes unneeded stress.

Good learning experience, started out well but ended with an anti-climax

    IT Analyst (Former Employee)

ProsRelative autonomy vs micro managment, casual working environment, good benefits, interesting projects

ConsLittle recognition for overtime hours, no work from home alternatives even with bad weather conditions, poor work-life balance

Advice to Senior ManagementPay attention to what goes on with individual associates, try to balance attention to all contributors and not just favorites, start providing work from home opportunities

    Intense, yet enjoyable

Software Engineer Intern (Current Employee) Olathe, KS

ProsGarmin has a fantastic HR crew and some extremely talented engineers. Company culture ranges from relaxed to slightly more professional, depending on which group you're in. My manager took our group of interns out for flight, which really put our project work into context. Training on testing and requirements is mandatory, and a welcome experience for those new to the design process.

ConsWhether you land in a good team with a manager you like is rather hit-and-miss. Depending on how your manager is positioned relative to you, you may receive some skewed or inaccurate performance reviews. Sometimes, it can be hard to get onto a group that does work you enjoy.

Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend – I'm optimistic about the outlook for this company
