I have been working at Garmin full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

The workplace is very relaxed, the workers are very friendly, training is on-going for products, and the health benefits are very nice. Getting time off approved, for PTO, is a breeze, which is so nice compared to other places I have been.

    Cons

The big con here is that there is very little structure for career path development. You have to pester and ask and ask, and no one seems to have a definite answer. Although I hear work is being done about that.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

My advice is to update the career paths for people that are not interested in being on the phone, and wanting to make a career in Garmin that is not engineer related.

I worked at Garmin as a contractor (more than an year)

    Pros

    Very Professional and Friendly Co-workers.

    Cons

Hard to find the Cons. Their were some confusion to if the Engineers we in charge at times or the Managers.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep up with the connection that you have with the Production floor it does help the bottom line when they feel like you are paying attention to their likes or dislikes.

    Pros

Challenging work with lots of opportunities to shape the products we work on through personal freedom and innovation. Everything we do has a purpose and the end goal in mind. Time is taken if needed to do things right, but isn't wasted on efforts that don't yield any value.

    Cons

None. There are things that could be improved with any situation, but realistically there is very little to complain about.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Keep up the good work.

I have been working at Garmin full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Garmin has an awesome environment at their headquarters in Olathe. The team leaders / management all started as engineers which makes work a lot easier instead of business majors being managers. Great benefits and they take care of their employees.

    Cons

It's in Kansas. Not much in Kansas. A little too far from KC to be traveling too regularly but about 40 miles away.

I have been working at Garmin as an intern (less than an year)

    Pros

I have been working at Garmin for 5 months now as an intern. My work experience is going to be much different than full time employees, so please review those if you are applying for a full time position.

Extremely FLEXIBLE work schedule. Part time interns make their own schedules to fit around class. These schedules are not set in stone, and can even be changed daily.

There are plenty of RESOURCES available for interns, including mentors and helpful managers.

RELAXED environment. I work in my school clothes, I listen to music while I code, and the other interns are typically open to small talk.

    Cons

Required to meet 13 hours a week

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    None so far.

I worked at Garmin as an intern (less than an year)

    Pros

A positive, very hands-on environment for engineering interns. Lots of practical, invaluable experience, and generous pay. They really do encourage a healthy balance between work/life. They even helped pay league fees for employee/intern teams.

    Cons

Work-stream seemed very cyclical, but it seems to be that way with every employer. My main project my second summer there was taking longer than expected by another intern, but the engineers were able to pull extra work together to help keep me busy and engaged.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep it up. They were very approachable and easy to get along with. I rode in the elevator with Dr. Kao one day and was as nice and friendly as could be.

    Pros

A great company that has a wonderful culture.

    Cons

It's hard to move up in the ranks while working in Salem. There needs to be more opportunities for every hard working person in the contact center.
