I have been working at Gartner full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Working with highly intelligent people who have a passion for what they do. Ability to travel around the world. Its a respected brand in the IT research and advisory industry. Training for Sales people is very thorough, for other departments it is less structured and up to the manager. The office space is newly re-designed and has a state of the art gym.

    Cons

The compensation is not up to market standards or to the standards of living for lower Fairfield County. In some departments there is no flexibility to work from home, although if you are an Analyst, these rules do not apply. It is hard to get ahead is some departments, like most corporations office politics play an important role in who is promoted and who isn't.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

With regards to your employees in CT, please take into account the cost of living in Fairfield County and surrounding areas when creating comp plans. If most employees are moving north due to the cost of living, consider allowing more employees to work out of the Trumbull facility. Some of your employees are spending 4 hours a day just on their commute to work, in this day and age, that's just dumb! Also, don't just say that the "culture" is to promote from within, provide opportunities for employees to learn other roles.

I have been working at Gartner full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

The people that work at Gartner are very intelligent, friendly and willing to lend a helping hand. There are always opportunitues to grow professionally and move forward within the company. Gartner also provides a generous amount of paid time off and provides great benefits.

    Cons

There is not a lot of training so you are often thrown into the fire and forced to self teach. The company is more focused on process and metrics so anything that is done outside that, goes unappreciated. When provided more work within a role (outside of the job description), nothing is taken off of your plate to balance out the load so being overworked becomes common.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Gartner needs more leaders and managers that are willing to step up to the plate. There are opportunities within the organization for workers to grow but management needs to help guide this. Gartner needs more managers that someone can look up to and want to strive to be, encourage growth and education, and make workers excited about their job.

I have been working at Gartner full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Flexibility to work from home, very nice location, friendly coworkers and room for growth.

    Cons

Some of upper management need to learn social skills for ALL employees and not just ones at their own level.

I have been working at Gartner full-time

    Pros

The work is fun and challenging. The people are too. It is a financially stable, growing company with travel opportunity.

    Cons

Upper management made a really bad management decision this week. This has left a bad taste in a lot of mouths (see below: Advice to Management)

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Morale should be considered more by management. More specifically, back in December our group was celebrated and given t-shirts in honor of reaching $200M. It was very nice to be recognized for our achievements and success. Six months later, working from home on Fridays was taken away from us with no "reason" or logic given. Is this how you treat a successful team? Why is it necessary to remove a very important "perk" from a very productive group of people? How does upper management think this will not effect morale?

A decision such as this makes me lose faith in our management team and question all decisions being made.

I worked at Gartner full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

The best reasons to work there is the flexibility to work from home and their benefits

    Cons

There isn't much of a 'training' period when hired. Hard to get a grasp as to the culture of the company.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I had one manager that was horrible but the other person that I worked for was great to work with.

I have been working at Gartner full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

Good benefits, good time off, good brand. Good talented people to work with.

    Cons

Being a technology company, internal IT does not practice what their own Analysts preach to the world. Poor people management and heavy politics! If you can survive that this is a place to retire. Be careful which group you join....

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Practice what you preach and treat everyone equally. Dont be power hungry and share your profits!
