    Pros

Exposure to a lot of different projects, good benefits, good opportunity to move through company, but only if you look for it yourself.

    Cons

Leadership doesn't care about it's people, only profits- will do whatever it takes to be more profitable in spite of long term strategies.

    Advice to Management

Start realizing people matter to your long term success.

    Pros

Location next to 16th Street Mall made it easy to commute by public transit and visit great stores and restaurants. People were generally nice.

    Cons

Management seemed focused more on profit than quality and downstream effects of their actions that didn't impact the bottom line (though they gave it lip service).

    Pros

Good people, everyone wants to do the right thing.

    Cons

Leadership team isn't strategic, stuck being reactive to day to day and can't see the bigger picture and how to grow the company. Tactically focused. Lots of politics

    Pros

Solid advancement opportunities. Market competitive compensation & benefits. Convenient LoDo location with free EcoPass. Grass roots worker ethic from mid-level managers to production. Culture is pride in hard work, built by employees - not management.

    Cons

General Counsel uses bully tactics to intimidate and threaten rank and file as well as senior leaders. Ironically, this role is also the final escalation level for ethics complaints. CEO (a public figure) couldn't lead himself out of a paper bag. Has zero confidence with production and white collar staff. Note prior background as an attorney. Coaching attempts and the now defunct "Breakfast with the CEO" still have not improved his ability to inspire or otherwise engage employees.

    Advice to Management

Mission accomplished. With the Blackstone purchase, Gates now has the great privilege to have been purchased with a significant amount of debt. Debt that will result in even more corner-cutting. As if it didn't already reek of cheap for the last 5 years. So please stop telling all levels of the organization that our new owners will not be directly managing business decisions. They already do. It was inevitable, but no need to say "business as usual" when you know full well there will be sweeping changes. (Ahem.... That quietly buried CFO departure announcement before the ink dried.... Yeah, that didn't go unnoticed.)

    Pros

Gates is a growing company but also has a solid foundation. Often times there are opportunities to learn as change occurs and people are expected by management to step up and make those changes successful. There are many good people who work here and who are dedicated to the company.

    Cons

At times management displays favoritism towards certain employees over others. The growth driven objectives of the company can make the environment unstable which leads to personal uncertainty over job security.

    Cons

Gates is a large corporation, so timeliness is not always possible

    Advice to Management

Look to gain efficiencies in your departmental structure.

    Pros

PEOPLE! The Gates people are second to none! They will help one another and work together to solve problems with one another. A more proud, traditional group of people you will not find anywhere.

    Cons

Upper management changes constantly and the ever present threat of being sold to yet another company leaves the clear direction lacking. Most managers don't have the opportunity to learn what their employees do before they are moved to another position so the workers are left to self manage a lot.

    Advice to Management

Stop letting your best people leave, promote from within to save this company as the people you overlook hold the keys to success at your company. Stop listening to the yes men. They don't know what they are saying yes to.

    Pros

Lots of great people at Gates that want to work for good leaders. Great branding and efforts underway with new marketing.

    Cons

Many senior leaders have no idea how to lead and encourage others to look the other way. Engagement is poor. Most of the senior leaders are not interested in fixing anything. They don't see what is broken.

    Advice to Management

Decide to get healthy and rid the leadership team of the well known problem children. From there, employees will rally.

  11. Helpful (1)

Solid profits, yet gloomy messages from Executives for over a decade, little room for career advancement.

    Pros

Downtown Denver Location, high paced work environment, pay and benefits, excellent products. I am proud to say I work for Gates because they have a history providing a good belt and hose product. President of US Operations is a leader that others should emulate.

    Cons

Sullen culture, CIO lacks integrity and is out of touch, few advancement opportunities despite record profits. The career ladder, for all intensive purposes, doesn't exist. The organization is flat and a hiring freeze or close to it has been in place for some time.

    Advice to Management

Decide quickly whether you want this company to be a terminal cash cow or if you want to invest in its future.
