    Great place to work

    Current Employee - Anonymous Employee
    Current Employee - Anonymous Employee

I have been working at Gaudenzia

    Pros

Great benefits. Decent pay for non profit. Good place tov gain experience.

    Cons

Redundancy in paperwork. Too much paperwork not enough time to do it.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be more pro active and not 're active. Be more efficient in keeping facilities fully staffed.

  2.

    Horrible place to work

Former Employee - Drug and Alcohol Counselor in Philadelphia, PA
Former Employee - Drug and Alcohol Counselor in Philadelphia, PA

I worked at Gaudenzia full-time (less than a year)

    Pros

working with a diverse D/A inmate patient population. working with (few) colleagues that have or are working on acquiring their Bachelor's or Master's in counseling. The job skills training instructor (JE) was a joy to learn from.

    Cons

The pay is horrible for what you are expected to do. There is no shortage of groups, and little to no time to run them. Fast-paced environment with no clinical support. Clinical directors and supervisors in name only, as they have no credentials, i.e. MSW, LPC, LSW, LCSW, to supervise or run a human services dept. "Clinical supervisors" supervision consists of managing your productivity, and not assisting you with refining clinical skills, (see aforementioned point above). Most employees in the building after a month of hire appears on edge, ready to snap.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hire clinical directors, clinical supervisors that can clinically supervise their staff, and not act as if the staff are part of the patient population.

    Pros

I love helping and educating the inmates in the prison therapeutic community. I feel this program is essential to repeat offenders in the substance abuse community in order to motivate them into recovery therefore maintaining a "healthy lifestyle out side of the prison walls

    Cons

i drive 64 miles round trip every day m-f and would like employment in my chosen field closer to home

I have been working at Gaudenzia full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Good benefits, good mission statement, does a lot of good for the community

    Cons

Complete chaos, upper management unqualified for their positions, unprofessional environment, corruption, unethical, poor management, no reward or recognition, disrespectful towards employees, zero work/life balance, rock bottom morale, executive level staff make very poor business decisions

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Leadership must change for the future of this organization or it is going to fail. All of the best employees leave this company as quickly as they can. Not an organization I would want to grow with or retire with.

I have been working at Gaudenzia full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Medical Benefits are good for the price. You get 10 days off your first year and it increases every year until you reach 24 than it stops.

    Cons

You do not get promoted if you are good at what you are currently doing unless you kiss butt and are a "pet". Salaries suck unless you are upper management. They do not care about you and your family. If you have a family emergency you are SOL. Management is very unorganized. There is poor communication. No one has a set schedule so having a much needed second job is next to impossible.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop trying to open new programs and take care of the ones you currently have that are falling apart.

I worked at Gaudenzia full-time (less than a year)

    Pros

Decent Training program if had the appropriate professionals to teach. Decent Benefits.

    Cons

Management had drama. Words and actions contradictory. Worked in correctional instituations. Trainings would be canceled and you wouldn't be notified after traveling to location. Unprofessional atmosphere. Condecending management. Not very helpful or supportive to train new hires at the job position.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Don't allow personal relationships to supercede professional. Clean house with managers who care about their employees.

    Pros

Plenty of training that can help if you want to be a clinician and they employ ex-felons.

    Cons

No men without any friends in the company will ever go anywhere. The company is about 85% women that are friends.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Restructure the way that hiring, promotions and grievances are done. Do not leave it up to the HR. Dept. That's where the problem starts.
