I worked at Gaylord Palms Resort full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Worked with the company for 9 years. Loved the culture prior to the Marriott takeover. Great people, good benefits, good place to work.

    Cons

Have heard things have changed with MI coming on board. Some promotions held up due to friendships rather than performance.

I have been working at Gaylord Palms Resort as a contractor (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Amazing staff that is friendly to get along with, great management that's fair and great company to work for to have on your resume and help advance in the hospitality industry.

    Cons

Because it is a hotel, you will be expected to work most holidays, nights, and weekends. If this isn't something you are okay with doing, I would suggest a different industry.

    Pros

Very professional company to work for. Leaders are there to help you succeed at your job by guiding you and giving you the necessary tool you need in order to do your job. I really like working there. I feel valued and respected by upper management.

    Cons

No much to say here, I appreciated my job and value the company so honestly I have nothing to say here.

I worked at Gaylord Palms Resort full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Cheap employee meals. Decent health benefits. Discounts on rooms and merchandise. Onsite workout facility for employees 24 hours a day. Loved working with my co-workers who worked around me.

    Cons

Some of the upper management I don't feel knew what they were doing as far as running the establishment. Would constantly run out of items. Extremely high turn-over rate, due to communication and lack of leadership. Personal and professional growth was little to none. Pay was extremely low for most employees.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Set up a system where the managers will have to clock in and out while having someone else separately manage their time schedule. Pay employees more, considering the work ethic and dedication put forth by them. Set up a better system for promoting employees that would better fit the employees skills. Set up a system to teach employees, that want to advance, what skills they need in order to be promoted.

I have been working at Gaylord Palms Resort part-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Gaylord really cares about making their employees feel good about their jobs.

    Cons

With Gaylord now being part of the Marriott family it has been a learning curve for management to integrate Marriott policies and procedures. Some veterans are having a harder time than others to learn to do things in a different way.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Because people love their jobs so much it is hard to move up based on very limited availability for new positions.

Benefits and scheduling. Other than that I would probably just keep looking and find something else.

    Cons

    Pros

Leaders really care about you and your development. Leaders talk to you like a person and give you feedback, they don't talk down to you. The put you on the same level as them. Everyone at the hotel is really nice to work with. Great work/life balance. $1.50 meals in the employee cafeteria--food is good too!! Where else can you get a full meal for $1.50?? If you wear your own clothes to work (nonuniform role) you get free dry cleaning! They do a great job. I recommend working here.

    Cons

The pay....Salary employees do well, however hourly roles, even higher level hourly roles pay very little...
