    I worked at Gelber Group

    Pros

They have been around a long time. They are involved in multiple types of trading. They offer lots of freedom, and management is generally pretty nice and helpful.

    Cons

A couple of the traders there have made a career off of stealing others ideas and that has caused a lack of idea sharing.

    Advice to Management

    Reward idea sharing.

    Disapproves of CEO

    Pros

-CEO is passionate about trading and the markets
-Ability to trade live markets in short amount of time
-There are some really bright/good people
    -Small base pay

    Cons

-They will not teach you anything other than the extreme basics of trading
-They preach putting traders in 'best fit' groups and situations but fail at doing so
    - Certain managers are extremely negative towards their traders, uninvolved, and narrow minded as to how to make money in the markets
-The CEO preaches diversity of thought and uniqueness in his traders (trading style and personality) but many of his managers actively inhibit their traders ability to do this as they will reprimand you for not adhering to the one style fits all approach of the group (even when this is not a profitable approach for most traders)
-While the small base salary is nice for a prop shop, you still have to cover your entire salary and unusually high costs before one can start taking a portion of his/her earnings
-They still fee their traders as if their technology is a huge edge when it clearly is no longer an edge at all
-Other than down side protection and office space, there is no real benefit or competitive advantage the firm offers above trading one's own account

    Advice to Management

Get more involved in the weeds and find a way to get genuine feedback from your traders

    Pros

Best aspect of Gelber is the relaxed culture and flat structure. It is truly a meritocracy. There is plenty of outside activities to build community in the office as well.

    Cons

The only challenge of working at Gelber Group during the summer was the limited amount of instruction on trading that they provided. They expected you to be a self-starter, which is fine, but more instruction/guidance would have been nice.

    Advice to Management

The upper management is very accommodative and approachable. I don't have too many things to say about them, good or bad.

  10. For those interested in trading, Gelber is a close-knit and highly profitable firm that excels in what they do.

    Pros

Smart people, successful traders, free catered lunches, freedom to design and pursue new trading strategies. Management is encouraging and other traders are a great resource for collaboration. There is an overall emphasis on technology and success.

    Cons

Freedom to pursue personal strategies is sometimes balanced by a lack of supervision. The uncertain future of algorithmic and HFT will affect the trading industry as a whole, including Gelber. Salaries above the low baseline are fractions of trading profits.

    Advice to Management

    Keep doing what you're doing.
