Too bad they had no idea how to change with the times....

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee) Tulsa, OK

    ProsSmart group of workers
    Quality people who worked hard
    Ownership in problems

ConsUpper mgmt let the business stagnate.
Did not take the opportunity that lower level mgmt offer to which would have revived a entirely new market which has since exploded.

Iconic American Brand Reduced to Footnote in Media History

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee) Los Angeles, CA

Proshealthcare benefits, 401k matching @ 3%, free garage parking, dept. teams (when they were properly fit together), rare instances of management with outside the box thinking.

Consvast majority of management with inside the box "old school" thinking, resulting in inability to stay (at least) current, let alone ahead of the curve; therefore, did not embrace a "new school" of forward-thinking employees; not investing in research, resulting in multi-million dollar losses from 6-month magazine run; overall filled the corporate offices with number-crunching management to trim down the company for sale, but neglected to balance it with functional, quality creative to make it as attractive and lucrative as it could have been.

Advice to Senior Managementthe management hired from late 2004-onward possessed inside the box "old school" thinking, resulting in inability to stay (at least) current, let alone ahead of the curve; therefore, did not embrace a "new school" of forward-thinking employees; mistakes were made by not investing in research (or enough), resulting in multi-million dollar losses from 6-month magazine run; overall, the major misstep was filling the corporate offices with number-crunching management to trim down the company for sale, but neglected to balance the company functional, quality creative to make it as attractive and lucrative as it could have been.

    Looks good on paper...

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee) Tulsa, OK

ProsThe location. To be able to work for a cable network outside of a major city is hard to beat. Tulsa is a great undiscovered gem of a city that is family friendly and a great place to raise a family. The schools are top notch, the housing prices are the most affordable in the country and there is great medical care and major hospitals in the area.

ConsHorrible budgets, bad pay, inexperienced workers from the top to the bottom. It's basically on the job training for broadcasters, only no one is learning anything. Tulsa is a pain in the butt to go anywhere from. Almost no direct flights anywhere. Even the shortest flights take a full day to accomplish due to changing planes in Texas or another hub.

Advice to Senior ManagementSpend the money to hire more experienced broadcasters and put them in key positions throughout the company. Stop drinking the kool-aid and realize that the ship is sinking and status quo won't cut it anymore.

Strong vision required quick before people leave

Director, Product Management (Current Employee) West Hollywood, CA

ProsHuge market opportunity, talented people, should be able to create something great!

ConsNot sure, there is a lot of change at the moment due to the acquisition by Macrovision.

Advice to Senior ManagementHave a strong vision to execute on the acquisition. If it isn't crystal, the best people will leave to go and do something more interesting.

    Great 1st job.

    Scheduling Reporter (Former Employee)

ProsIt's a good first job to get experience right out of college. There are plenty of young people working there so they provide an energetic work environment. The company puts a lot of effort into training it's employees.

ConsHigh turnover of employees because many people only worked there for a year or two and then found a better paying job elsewhere in the region.
