Genentech is a great place to work because of the people that work there and the culture that is established there.

    I worked at Genentech

    Pros

I like the job itself, helping patients live longer lives is very rewarding. Some of the people there are very interesting, knowledgeable and caring.

    Cons

There are some very knowledgeable, experienced supervisors. But there are some supervisors that are promoted to their position for the sole reason that they have relatives or friends in high positions. They are very ignorant and inexperienced on how to manage people. Or how to manage at all. This leads to many problems on the floor. Many of those abuse their power and use for their own monetary gains.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I think you need to hire more professional, educated, experienced supervisors. Listen to your work force, they are the ones on the floor everyday.

I have been working at Genentech

    Pros

Especially for the area, the salaries, benefits and work conditions are very good. There are many dedicated and talented people working at the site and the products Genentech manufactures save lives. The Hillsboro facility is brand new.

    Cons

Directors and site leadership are severely disconnected from the line workers and supervisors. Morale and job dissatisfaction are at an all time high. Since this site is a 'greenfield' start-up, the original staff were talented, handpicked engineers, technicians and specialists. Unfortunately, many of these people are demotivated to the point where well over 1/3 of the salaried staff are looking for employment elsewhere. I can say with confidence that this site is not representative of Genentech as a whole. If you are pursuing employment at Genentech, check out the sites in California. As a company, Genentech is amazing but this site has a long way to go.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Class A and the governance model are a waste of time when the site cannot fill vials. Please stop trying to meet the schedule at all cost and please stop ignoring your managers and line workers. Don't worry about 'managing the message' and just communicate to the staff. The site is full of smart, professional people who can handle the hard truth if you will just be open with us.

I have been working at Genentech

    Pros

For oregon only its the best place to work unless cutting trees down or waiting tables is your thing. For SSF that ship has long sailed.

    Cons

Huge disconnect front the frontline employees and managment(as usual right). the plant was poorly designed. all genentech sites hate eachother so no one collaborates because everone is too arrogant (for no real reason)-( so far most the managers at genentech are in position for who they are friends with, not becuase they manage great). We have nothing but delays delays and more delays yet managers are promoted= what?but we constanlty been force fed crap like Class A, global this, governance that, 5S this, studd never ends ands gets in the way!. These lame inititives which basically come into light to- justify jobs. Remove all that fluff and lets get to work. Stop wasting time with all this nonsense. This Plant is:
     FAR FROM LEAN!!!!
    Far from Class A
Excellent at delays and making poor descisions.

I am in the proccess of looking outside for another job because there is way too much corporate fluff here.
     -Old School Genentech RIP.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop overloading everyone with all these crazy initiative and focus on whats really important. if you feel the need to create something out of thin air so someone or some group can have something to do...dont. get rid of those cement shoes. bring it back to basics. oh and get rid of that horrible gLearn crap GOD what a waste of time. news for you. no way no how has anyone ever been fully qualed or compliant with that system. New people and training. people should not take 6-8 months to be able to work on the job because they are at the mercy of gLearn components and quals or waiting for some trainer to submit an FN2250. totally rediculous, i cannot waite to find a job where i can just work. as far as who Pascal is? i dont know him so therefore i could care less and its a stupid question, since when does a high ranking person in a company have any effect on the "real working" people. pst..
