Genentech continues to be a great place to work

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

I have been working at Genentech full-time for more than 10 years

ProsGenentech is an innovative company that continues to attract very talented people. Patients are at the center of everything and this drives decision making. There is a focus on employee engagement with many great perks such as the gym, onsite car detailing, onsite dentist, onsite haircuts, laundry service, etc. The campus is gorgeous and a new environmentally friendly building is under construction.

ConsWork-life balance can be challenging. Long hours particularly for people who have to conduct regular business with other countries (i.e., early morning meetings and/or late evening calls)

Advice to Senior ManagementContinue to focus on providing tools to assist with balancing work and life.

Great Science, Mission and People

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

I have been working at Genentech full-time for more than 10 years

ProsScientific and patient values, seamless integration with Roche to make an environment that is both local and global, smart, driven people, no drama between functions. Sufficient resources to get your job down. Excellent management who support and develop employees. Amazing pipeline and family-owned parent company provides unusual stability in a fast changing indistry.

ConsProcesses and execution of clinical trials are not where they should be. Time zone difference of 9 hours to Basel is a reality in your work day. Pressure of competition and increasing unwillingness of countries/payers to pay for medical innovation.

Advice to Senior ManagementKeep valuing employees as the #1 asset. Think about how to improve our decision making processes (scientific and portfolio review) so that the process is "lighter" and faster. Time is of the esence for many of our patients.

Excellent company

Medical Science Liaison (Former Employee)

I worked at Genentech full-time

ProsExcellent company to work for. Had some of the best talent in the industry working together in Medical Affairs. Excellent products, salary, benefits and resources to do the job.

ConsA shift towards micro management after the merger seemed to discourage independent thought and communication but seems to be improving

Associate Systems Specialist

Assistant Systems Specialist (Current Employee)
Redwood City, CA

I have been working at Genentech full-time for more than 5 years

ProsInnovative and casually intense culture, with a highly research and intellectually focused organization motivated by improving the lives of our patients.

ConsGenentech, now owned by Roche, seems to be becoming more and more of a temporary employer with a strong contractor force. There is a divide, culturally, between the contract workforce and the permanent employees that is more prominent in some sectors than others
