I have been working at Generac Power Systems full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    work on many different projects

    Cons

Yuck. No one seems to know what they are doing. No processes in place. No way to grow as an employee because there are no career paths in place. Crappy benefits, low pay. Old school rules; company motto should be: well that's how we've always done it," or “not my job.” Micromanagement. Unbalanced workloads from employee to employee. Lack of support all around. Revolving door: treat you and your job as short term.   The company values that are promoted are exactly what they don’t do. Most of the internet is blocked and everything is heavily monitored.

    Advice to Management

Get your act together, run things like the large, public company it is (rather than the small, private company it once was). Treat your employees with respect. Treat your employees like the adults they are. Think about the overall structure of the company. Needs some 'Out with the old, in with the new,' mentality.

I worked at Generac Power Systems full-time

    Pros

    Residential Market share, good people

    Cons

Management team is inexperienced in public arena. Multiple Executives are not qualified for the areas they are supposed to lead. Strategy changes twice a quarter and long term targets are unattainable. Worst moral environment I have ever seen and HR is either not engaged or scared to enforce anything.

    Advice to Management

Get some outside blood with experience dealing with downturns. Really take a hard look at the toxic culture across many of the departments.

    Pros

Salary good if this is all you work for.

    Cons

Absolutely no job security. Management is not competent and demonstrates this by philosophy that we are all replaceable. Very high turnover in Salaried Group. Company is poor at communication, teamwork and people development. Expected to use your personal vehicle and cell phone to conduct company business. Company does not provide tools to do your job. Career advancement not related to qualifications.Company claims to be improving but does not walk the talk.

    Advice to Management

Learn the jobs of the people you supervise. Wisdom comes from experience not books. People leave because they are abused by their managers, and they do not know what expectations they are held to. Treat people like assets, and develop them instead of running them out the door.

I have been working at Generac Power Systems full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Benefits are good, insurance is affordable, coworkers are fun

    Cons

Passive Aggressive Atmosphere...Will hire anyone who walks through the door which leads to horrible team building. Pay is well below the market for our area and it feels like they go out of their way to make it harder to complete our goals. Our Manager comes to our location once every 4-5 months and we don't hear from him in between. People are rewarded for doing the job they were hired for. You met goal - here's a gift card. Not You didn't make goal? How can we help you? Very High School (sometimes Middle School) atmosphere. Foul language, harrassment, confrontations between coworkers. HR does nothing, supervisor closes office door and ignores. Office physical environment is horrible. Bathrooms constantly out of order, phones drop calls, temperature impossible to regulate. Our office doesn't have a fancy cafeteria or walking trail. Jefferson is the Red Headed Step Child of Generac. Only YES MEN are promoted. if you question any procedure, policy or make suggestions for improvement you become stagnate.

    Advice to Management

Hold employees accountable. Do not reward for the doing the job we were hired to do. Every single person was told in their interview what the expectation is. Reward those who go above and beyond. Don't send 10 emails telling people what the dress code is or 'reminding' what the rules are DO SOMETHING ABOUT THOSE THAT DON'T FOLLOW PROCEDURE. That will go a very long way in bringing success to the team and the company. Without sales there are no dealers. Treat us like we matter and stop hiring idiots who feed off of each other. This department could run successfully with the 10 people who have proven themselves and truly care about Generac and succeeding. VP needs to be more involved and treat DA like he knows they exist.

    Pros

Great product with an emphasis on manufacturing; president that loves investing in new technology. A president who leads and inspires. Silver lining is the remaining few good people. But unfortunately even those loyal, dedicated veteran empoyees are leaving and those remaining are actively seeking other employment.

    Cons

New initiatives being rolled out daily, in a desperate attempt to change the quickly erroding culture. Life-work balance not recognized or respected. Top-tier managment has changed over the last year-and-a-half to self-seeking micromanagers. As a result of the mass exodus, it has left most departments grossly understaffed. Top-tier management has managed to break what wasn't broken.

    Advice to Management

Cease the incesssant rollout of new, pointless initiatives. Make immediate changes from the current, controlling regime, to leaders who will inspire and motivate and that employees can trust. "Get back to what made you succeful in the past."

I worked at Generac Power Systems full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

You will always be smarter than your boss and the work week was only 6 days a week.

    Cons

Management has no qualms about taking credit for your work or ideas. You will find yourself doing their jobs for them while they sit back and collect the pay. Beware when they offer you "opportunities". They will advance because of your hard work. They will create titles for their friends out of thin air. If you are not a yes man or disagree, you will be left to wallow in the dust.

    Advice to Management

The first step is to admit you have a problem; until then, nothing anyone says here is going to change anything.

Some good people who still work here

    Cons

More work and projects piled on with no addition to the terrible pay. Located in the middle of no where. Upper management leaves has no connection to people who do the real work.

    Advice to Management

Give the suckers doing all the work some of your overblown paycheck

I worked at Generac Power Systems full-time

    Pros

Not many pros. Lot's of challenging work and that is problem as they don't staff correctly. You will do a minimum of two jobs worth of work and probably more. If the teams were staffed correctly, there could be some good learning to be ascertained.

    Cons

Company is very frugal and is very archaic in topics like Work Life/Balance and giving its employees tools to succeed. It is a 24X7 organization and you will be required to put the company's priorities before yours. Not much flexibility and the employee's time is not respected or appreciated. From a business standpoint, the organization is very storm dependent and has not found many ways to break that dependency. Just check the stock performance for supporting evidence. Makes the future outlook very uncertain.

    Advice to Management

Act on your high turnover rate if you want to improve the perception of your company.

    Pros

Use to be a great company to work for until some newly hired immature engineering managers started ruining it. Work culture becoming political, full of discrimination and insulting.

    Cons

Current work culture especially in engineering hinders motivation. There is lot of discrimination, personal interest and insulting treatment withing group. Managers treat employees like slaves and they are fearless. Current work environment is more political than supporting good work. Some employees are being protected and some honest are being hated. Reviews are tailored to take personal revenge.

    Advice to Management

Upper management needs to scrutinize lower management. HR needs to be more functional. Managers are harassing employees. Lot of good employees are leaving and lot more waiting for help and on the verge to quit. Please act before things get worst !!!
