    Pros

Get good experience to pad your resume to move on to bigger and better things.

    Cons

No insensitive, command and control type of environment. lot of promises made about bonus and overtime during hiring process and rarely seen. compensation does not fit the expectation. The demand for constant perfection can be overwhelming. When mistakes happen people are treated like children and never given a fair chance. Employees are only a number.

I worked at Generac Power Systems full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

They finally built a cafeteria a couple of years ago, which is good because there's nothing around for miles.

    Cons

Toxic culture. Many areas--even the offices of Human Resources--have plastered their walls with polarizing political posters. Abusive middle-managers. Bullies thrive here. No upward mobility. The only people who weren't looking for a new job were people that had been there for 20+ years whose sole talent seemed to be somehow insulating themselves from dismissal based on performance. Legitimately talented, positive people don't linger here long.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Management isn't listening.

I worked at Generac Power Systems full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

    Benefits are decent
    Some people are nice
    New facility in Waukesha
    Cafeteria
    Great products

    Cons

    No work life balance
Still operates like a small family owned business
    Caters to the engineers
    Too top heavy
    High turnover
    Old fashioned company culture
    Low pay for most employees

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

You want to be an "employer of choice", so act like it! Give the employees more flexibility and work life balance. The only people that are paid decent are executives and engineers. You hire new people telling them that you want new, innovative ideas and then stifle them after they are hired. Stop running like a small, family owned business.

I worked at Generac Power Systems

    Pros

There are no pros this place sucks to work for

    Cons

The hardest workers get the short end of the stick while the slowest workers get rewarded, Have to stand on pavement all day, Each shift blames another, Everyone grabs the easiest jobs first before the jobs that need to be done, You get fired if you drive a forklift in a circle, Supervises do not follow the rules, The disciplinary rules are not followed so if you look at your supervisor the wrong way it could be your last day.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Follow the rules and treat all your workers equal

I have been working at Generac Power Systems full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Was able to learn how things were done back in the 70's.

    Cons

Very little internal structure. No real career growth plan. Upper management fights between groups and have an unwillingness to work together.

I have been working at Generac Power Systems full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

There are good people that are here. Office remodel at corporate headquarters looks nice.

    Cons

Growing to fast and don't know how to handle it. Most salaries below the management level are well below average. IT department is underfunded and over worked. Everyone does the work of 3 to 4 people but are under paid. They concentrate on the upfront cost to much and not the long term. Spent way to much to remodel very old building when they probably could have built a better more efficient facility from scratch. They are buying companies left and right but are not taking the time to integrate them properly. They waste money on useless cosmetic updates like polishing the production floor, but penny pinch on the important stuff. They keep hiring VPs and Directors but no employees to implement and support all their new ideas. Forcing out long term good knowledgeable people so the new management can bring in their friends. HR is way to powerful. Many directors and VPs want to pay their employees mileage for traveling back and forth to their many "local" facilities which are an average of 30-60 minutes apart, but HR says "No we don't pay mileage." Some employees put 2,500+ miles on their personal vehicles with no compensation at all. They are starting to fill open positions with contractors so they don't have to pay them benefits. This leads to lack advancement so a lot careers are in a holding pattern.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Actually mean it when you say you care about your employees. Pay your employees mileage!!! Deducting it on your taxes doesn't give you that much. Throw out your salary studies you had done in the 90's this is 2014 pay your employees like it is. Actually promote from within instead of hiring from outside first. Stop wasting money on useless cosmetic upgrades and invest the money were it is really needed. Restructure bonus program to be attainable when there aren't any natural disasters to drive sales through the roof.

I have been working at Generac Power Systems full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

This company gave me amazing personal development skills and assisted me in creating an amazing resume in sales and helped me land an amazing job elsewhere. The Benefits were outstanding. The employee picnics are wonderful because they have free beer so you can forget about work for once on there dime.

    Cons

The pay was really poor especially since the sales departments are usually short staffed with absolutely no extra compensation but yes to extra stress. It feels like I was back in school with all of the extra non sense they throw at you every week from left field with due dates!! Any issues start with the sales rep. Then get passed to a department with one great lady in there. The company over works you and under pays you. Watch out for the "executive team" and the Many vp's they have. You have to thresten to leave to get a raise. Promotions are not handed out. No opportunities to move to outside sales as they claim "this is where it starts as an isr and then you get to outside sales" yeah, you get the amazing training and go make bank elsewhere by finding s great company and promoting yourself!! You don't matter but the company does. No hurricanes, no sales, no bonuses. Rename sales reps. To account executives or managers.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Upper management needs to do more team building activities with there employees more than once a year. They need to improve MANY processes which ultimately affects customers and end users then sales. Make this a commission job and drop the taxed 40% bonuses. In the world of sales- money motivates which drives sales.

I have been working at Generac Power Systems full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Lots of overtime(instead of higher pay)
    Their checks don`t bounce

    Cons

Very low pay,no balance between work and home life, unsafe forllift drivers especially in the shipping area.
Once you at the "top" of your labor grade(pay scale) thats it.
Doing more or going beyond is not rewarded
    Micro managed,and badly at that
    The bureaucracy
Revolving door of employees...if you stay a year thats a long time
Management is very disrespectful to employees, unless your a pretty woman or drink with the supervisor at lunch
No drug testing, not even after an injury
No saftey concern is addressed until AFTER and injury occurs
Bonus structure is terrible...you might get a little something,if they dont spend money to polish the shop floors
I could go on and on...do yourself a favor and stay away

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Pay quality people a quality wage!
Really evaluate your managers, most things get done do to "lower" level empolyees` hard work
DRUG TEST DRUG TEST DRUG TEST!
Take some time to visit the shop and talk to people..and see why things don`t run as they should.
Trust the people who do the job everyday rather than the lead or supervisor (not much there)

I have been working at Generac Power Systems full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Lots of overtime, a good job for someone who s single and has no family or no life!!!!

    Cons

They preach soo much about family and all of that and they dont care, you have to leave work...dont count on leaving without getting crap about it. if you need off for a weekend or something for a family gathering...dont count on it either, you would have to use your occurrences, which is nice but you only have 12 to use so if something goes wrong....ya gotta use an occurrence...the leads dont care and they always get rewarded either way even when other employees complain. there is favoritism for sure, if you dont know anyone your pretty much gonna be on the chopping block at the company. they are already getting rid of the temps and anyone who hasnt worked there a year has to find a new job withing the company because its slowing down...work-life balance is terrible the line was on 12 hour days during the week and then 10 hours on Saturday with Sunday off. people have been harassed so many times by my lead that he has ben written up, sued, all of the above literally, and he still is working there, just because of the favoritism...this place does not care at all about you. the production supervisor used to go around telling people they are a dime a dozen and screaming at them and pretty much treating them like dirt....ya def a place you want to work....

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

There is none this place is gonna keep working but at what cost.
