Pros
-Work/Life balance is great.
-Training, even for interns is available
-Pay is good! They paid my relocation expenses and subsidized part of my housing/utilities/internet.
-Projects are challenging and meaningful; you really feel like you are working toward a goal.
-Welcoming atmosphere; most people are energized and happy with their jobs.
-The structure of the company allows for cross-functional job opportunities.
Cons
-Plant locations tend to be mostly in the Midwest and in cities in the middle of nowhere.
-The company culture may not be right for everyone.
Advice to Senior Management
-Continue what you are doing! Always strive to improve.
Pros
General Mills encourages rotating through multiple different positions in order to get a wide perspective and better understanding of our business processes and challenges.
Cons
As with any large company, there is a fair share of red tape and rules. Even if a manager wants to promote an employee, HR may shoot it down because of generic rules.
Pros
great talent and good benefits/culture
Cons
can be a bit traditional and conservative
Pros
The company offers great benefits and good vacation time even for new employees, and is financially stable even in poor economies.
Cons
The salaries compared to other companies are not stellar, and the bonuses for mid-level employees are nothing to write home about. Work-life balance leans towards more work and less life. Benefits and perks vary greatly from employees working at Field locations to those working at the corporate headquarters.
Advice to Senior Management
Open communication, trust, and being responsive to feedback cannot be emphasized enough.
Pros
They have great benefits, very Minnesota Nice culture, friendly, social, great leaders, treat employees well from the bottom to the top
Cons
Expectation to network incessantly, promotions seem more about being well-liked than anything else, cult-like place where there are prescribed norms for how you act
Advice to Senior Management
Get better at being more transparent and not avoiding tough conversations; being passive aggressive doesn't help anyone! Don't sugarcoat messages
Pros
Good Health Insurance and starting vacation time. Services available to employees on site. Fitness Center. Can buy products at the store on site.
Cons
Low salaries and low increases in salary if you are not in upper management. If you are in an area you can become branded in that type of position.
Pros
Good benefits, average market to value compensation, smart folks, drive for continuious improvement, expansion internationally, strong brand, diverse workplace, multtiple locations.
Cons
Not career oriented, poor feedback management system, high level of turnover in management, unclear career path, not flexible with employees work- life balance
Advice to Senior Management
Listen to employee, invest in employee development, value experience brought from outside of the organization, relook educational benefits to match the rest of the market
Pros
Work life balance is exceptional
Great perks at headquarters location - cafeteria, company store, salon, coffee shop
Excellent development opportunities
Cons
Campus is almost too large
Nnt enough conference rooms at headquarters office
Takes 10 plus minutes to reach desk from parking ramp
Advice to Senior Management
General Mills is an excellent company and has great employees and staff. I am proud to be employed by General Mills.
Pros
Very current with the latest technology, wide range of different job types.
Cons
Promotions seem to depend more on who your manager is than merit.
Pros
General Mills is a great place to work. The people are impressive. The benefits are excellent. The culture of the company is competitive, but fair. I have worked here for about 4 years, and it is certainly a job that you keep for many years. My coworkers have been with the company for decades, and I see why. The company creates an environment that is difficult to leave.
Cons
Everyone works really hard - and is always busy. This creates an environment where you need to use Outlook meeting requests to talk to anyone. The office stop by is really discouraged at times, which is okay, but weird sometimes. The pay, while competitive, I think could be a bit better. However, there is something to be said for the excellent benefits that offset that.
Advice to Senior Management
Continue on the same track, and remember that a happy employee is a productive employee.
