Pros
Great environment; products you can be proud of; supportive for work/life balance
Cons
Public company so lots of scrutiny;
Pros
Great brands
Aggressive go to market sales approach
Conservative and accountable business practices
Development of people
Growth opportunities
Cons
Limited career growth for field employees not able to relocate
Senior management is risk adverse, stifling at times
Atmosphere is very conservative and overly structured
Advice to Senior Management
Lighten the environment. The job is very rarely "fun". It is possible to accomplish goals and stay focused on plans while enjoying the ride along the way.
Pros
Great mission just need some better direction.
Cons
Bad communication skills going up and down the chain.
Advice to Senior Management
Take care of your people at the bottom.
Pros
Benefits, geographic locations to work at, excellent corporate HQ facility, low turnover. Total comp and benefits package is just enough to keep you there.
Cons
Flat organization, location, complete lack of a global mindset. Culture is tolerant of style and diversity differences but far from accepting.
Advice to Senior Management
The HR function needs to start taking care of it's own because the cobbler's kids have no shoes. Senior management needs to spend some more time overseas and get more mid-level managers out of Minneapolis to figure out how to be global.
Pros
General Mills is a great place to work. The benefits are excellent, the people are wonderful, and managers are great.
Cons
The promotion process tends to take too long and it can be difficult to receive a promotion if you are not on a career path.
Pros
They recruit the best, and therefore work hard to retain you.
Cons
It's a knowledge culture, not a documentation culture. I feel I could have started faster if there was more documentation regarding my job rather than relying on meeting after meeting after meeting to figure it out.
Advice to Senior Management
More emphasis on documentation for onboarding.
Pros
Salary and benefits were decent. If you're willing to work 50+ hours a week then there is opportunity for growth.
Cons
They are very regimented in their ways. There was not good communication and interaction between managment and employees.
Advice to Senior Management
Listen to feedback from your employees. Analyze the skill sets of each individual to customize their career path.
Pros
general mills is generally a good place to start a career
Cons
have not worked here long enough to comment on this
Advice to Senior Management
keep up all of the good work
