I have been working at Generation Mortgage full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Great coworkers, good benefits, decent pay for an entry-level job and they were willing to work with your schedule.

    Cons

Leadership, there was a lot of 'us vs. them' that went on with the employees and upper management, you only advanced to higher positions if you were 'in the right circles.'

I worked at Generation Mortgage as an intern (less than a year)

    Pros

I had a very diverse work experience there and learned a lot. I was paired with many different mentors as well. They taught me many different things in the fields of business analytics, information technology, and process monitoring.

    Cons

They didn't have too much focus on computer science. There was more focus on business analytics.

I have been working at Generation Mortgage full-time

    Pros

Donuts on Fridays. Jeans weeks to raise money for various charities. The company is trying to be more transparent with some major events for the company.

    Cons

HR turnover has been high. Senior management tends to put way too much faith in mid-level managers they have built personal friendships with, turning a blind eye to conduct which is apparent to the rest of the staff. Some managers can't always separate friendships and work relationships with their staff - fairness is an issue in some departments. Also, it can be difficult for talented employees wishing to explore new opportunities to move into other areas of the company. Some departments don't have a good outlook for advancement. Only some positions qualify for bonuses.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Don't be so boastful of your manager title. "Fake it, 'til you make" should not be a way to operate, especially if you've been in management for some time. Learn how the positions you manage actually work, so people in the company respect you, instead of talking behind your back at how stupid you make yourself look. Be fair in how you deal with your staff.

    Pros

Flexibility and great HR team to resolve employee issues. It's a Friendly work environment and employees work as a team to resolve customer issues.

    Cons

There is a high employee turnover rate in the IT department and too many operating systems that don't communicate well with each other. There are also several last many projects without enough staff.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hire enough employee to properly do the work and get one system to handle all loans from origination to servicing.

    Pros

Co Workers are the best! Office culture is relaxed including plenty of activites to learn what other departments do on a day to day basis as well as active involvement in the community.

    Cons

Compensation within this department is below industry norm. Salary is slightly below par and no bonus incentives and no plans for any bonus incentives in the new future. Upper management lacks communication between departments to ensure consistency. Loans being approved are of very low quality and only being approved due to little to no volume.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Why bother...they don't listen!

    Pros

Flexibility, salary decent and good natured people for the most part.

    Cons

NO structure, promotes inexperience people, training sucks

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get some knowledgeable senior management to run this company and stop hiring your friends who don't have a clue about the reverse mortgage industry or how to run a company.

    I worked at Generation Mortgage

    Pros

There are some really great people among the workforce. They have free donuts once a week. That pretty much sums it up.

    Cons

Absurdly unqualified people promoted because of connections. Management incapable of making decisions. Ruled from a distance by all-powerful investors. Very short-sighted.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop promoting each other long enough to develop a long-term strategy. Some really great people depend on you to show leadership qualities.
