I have been working at Genesis HealthCare full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Flexible schedule for DOR, great team of therapists and colleagues.

    Cons

GRS keeps taking things away from their long term EE's. DOR doesn't get PAID adequately...or even near what competitors pay. the Therapists make same or $1-2 less than manager... Responsibilities of DOR increase with no pay increase or appreciation of what they do (other than a simple "thanks"). Max merit is 2% for anyone. No WEB for managers working in own gym. since going public in Feb 2015, productivity and labor management are beaten to death. Old area director was amazing and a huge people person...GRS realigned and you guessed it, AD was moved and new AD came in. Now Use of Micromanagenent is an understatement. No autonomy. Little support from Area management team for DOR with troubled administrator/building. Annual reviews for management are NEVER done timely resulting in wating for increase and retro pay that gets messed up...then your asked to explain why #'s dont add up with the budget. :(
Morale was fantastic for a couple years and coming to work was fun. I do still enjoy all my coworkers and staff...they are like family.... Problem really lies within Genesis corporate and their lack of humility and understanding the idea of taking care of your own people. Cuts, cuts and more cuts. Medical benefits went up and choices were decreased to (2). This is a healthcare company.... Where's the healthcare for your people who make GHC the $$$?

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

We realize healthcare is a business, but please, spend less time looking at one dinentional reports and more time living your promises. Take a poll of your AD's and see and follow them thru their day. Notice if they have (+) influence on others or if scare tactics and lack of transparency are being used. Recognize hard work/dedication before the 10year marker. Look at WHY people are leaving Genesis and take action to correct the flaws. You have great theories but in reality its a bust! Remember, PCH is just a number...we deal with sick and needy human beings everyday... Doesn't the compassion, care and quality treatment count for something.... Maybe you should generate a report for that!

    Pros

Vacation and regular hours. Being a chef this is rare and appreciated.

    Cons

Promised promotion that never happened. Pay raises are not performance based and are only 3% annually. "Benefits" are now major medical only. No matching 401k.

I have been working at Genesis HealthCare

    Pros

Genesis provided fair pay and extensive formal and informal training regarding patient care. My position allowed for flexibility in schedule as needed.

    Cons

Flexible scheduling is dependent on manager and type of facility in which you are employed. Paperwork became longer, which led to decreased effectiveness of time management and I often stayed late to complete it.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Allow for ample time for paperwork.

I have been working at Genesis HealthCare

    Pros

Most of the nurses are great. The Physical/Occupational/Speech Therapists do a great job working with the residents.

    Cons

Nurses Aides are short staffed on a daily basis. The pay seems fairly low compared to similar companies in the area. I'm not sure if this is a problem in all Genesis facilities.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Wages, and benefits should be improved if you want to attract more experienced aides and nurses, and to retain the employees you already have.
