I worked at Genesis HealthCare part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Nice people nice residents easy work not too strenuous flexible hours good starting base pay

    Cons

Incompetent management lack of leadership lack of clarity on how things should be done no kitchen organization questionable cleaning methods

    Advice to Management

Take control and stop blaming everything on the employees who aren't kiss ups and don't be such a clique

    Pros

Enjoyed the autonomy of being the Restorative Manager, enjoyed working with residents

    Cons

Being "on call" for a week at a time, which basically resulted being called in to push a med cart due to short staffing

    Advice to Management

Get people out of offices & taking care of residents. Staffing coordinator needs fired due to allowing schedule to be put out with no staff & then panic when the day arrives when she knew weeks in advance there were staffing holes.

    Pros

    - Emerging opportunities to do home health care in conjunction with your hours in facility
    - Big company, lot of mobility opportunities

    Cons

    - They only care about the bottom line (and have recently become publicly traded)
    - They are buying out surrounding facilities in Massachusetts
    - A lot of full time positions are 35 hours, and on top of that I've heard about people receiving raises only to have them taken back, thus squandering your earning power.

    Advice to Management

Show more appreciation to the employees

    Pros

Benefits are very good. Pay is a little better than other local long term care facilities. Per deim pool receives even better pay.

    Cons

Treatment of staff is based on the prejudicial treatment of management. Those who are willing to work extra shifts get the best treatment, assignments and special favors. Those whose views and opinions not in agreement with management, and they voice those opinions, are subject tothe worst assignments and are short staffed.

    Advice to Management

Don't throw away senior experienced members of your staff for inexperienced to save money.

    Pros

Large resources available due to big company
Locally very good team of committed therapists
Flexibility to go work at other Genesis run facilities if census is low.

    Cons

    Lower pay than average
    Poor work-life balance
    Productivity is constantly monitored

    Advice to Management

Adjust focus to patient outcome based and ease off on constant monitoring of productivity. If you are going to pay below average at least offer more vacation days. The personal days offer looks good on paper but somewhat difficult to attain in practice.

I enjoy the atmosphere. Teamwork is evident on a daily basis. There is someone always willing to assist you or answer questions that you may have.

    Cons

Pay rate is below average compared to other jobs in the area. Difficult to find the supplies that you need to work with at times.

    Advice to Management

Find out more about new admits prior to accepting them.

    Pros

Not anyone that I can remember

    Cons

Unsafe place to work, very danger, some very mean people in management. I worked in few Genesis facilities and it was same everywhere. They do not care about patients at all same about employees. They do not keep staff and they always have lot of open positions. That tells you right away everything about company. They always somehow have very mean people for management positions who favorize small group of their people and rest of the employees leave in fear of that small group. If you do not have other choice do not work for them.

    Advice to Management

It would be too long they have to change everything
