I have been working at Genoa Healthcare full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great starting pay rate. Good benefits. All the benefits of working for a corporation, but still has the small business feel. You are able to contribute in many areas of the business not just filling prescriptions.

    Cons

Little room for advancement and very small pay increases. No breaks. Very few techs in one location so you will be running

    Advice to Management

Offer more incentives for employees who increase sale and grow the business. Make sure corporate culture is followed all the way through the company to your managers that are miles away!

  2. Definitely one of the best companies to work for. The job is challenging but they managed to keep it fun.

    Pros

This company values each and every employee. Everyone is known by their first names, this is from Sr. management down to each hourly employee.

    Cons

There aren't many reasons not to work here. The leadership gives each manager the autonomy needed to be successful, so if your not self motivated this is not for you.

    Pros

The co-workers were great to work with including the pharmacist.

    Cons

Since the QOL takeover, everything has gone downhill... the benefits, the sick/vacation days all reduced and they no longer give out Christmas bonuses. Regional management needs serious help in relating to site employees... they haven't a clue what goes on in day to day operations as they only show up once every two or three months.

    Advice to Management

Regional management needs help in relating to employees, they don't take the time to listen to concerns and they don't know how to accept criticism without getting upset... everything is one sided. When they do show up (once every two to three months), they show up in a bad mood. Maybe it would be a good idea for them to take a course in employee relations???

I worked at Genoa Healthcare full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Salary was not bad for tech salary.

    Cons

Completely disorganized chaos all the time. The computer systems are very outdated, lots of room for prescription errors, and even more potential for insurance billing fraud. I am amazed the "company" has stuck around this long and actually has the money to pay it's employees. There is no clear direction for anything and the pharmacists they hire are only hired here because they can't get a job at a real pharmacy. What a mess.

    Advice to Management

Update computer systems, get organized. See all above cons.

I have been working at Genoa Healthcare full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Public health at its grittiest. I love the hands on access to providers and clinicians. Being able to work on such a close level with amazing people helping those in the most need is a great. The effect that this company has on the community is evident daily. The hours are great and holiday closure is a nice touch.

    Cons

Clientele are unpredictable at times and can make some uncomfortable. Often times transient and severely mentally ill clients can be quite dirty and the stench of soiled clothing can be overwhelming at times. Training is minimal and management isn't very receptive to constructive criticism. The chain of communication shuts down and redirects you to take care of your own problems without problem resolution. Low pay for seasoned staff.

    Advice to Management

Listen to your employees and show a little appreciation for their work. A little goes a long long way.

I worked at Genoa Healthcare full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The hours. When the medical benefits start.

    Cons

The management from the pharmacy up to regional.

    Advice to Management

Listen to your employees. Enroll management in classes on how to be managers since most are pharmacist that are promoted to that position w/ no training in the area of management.

    Pros

Enjoyed the somewhat relaxed atmosphere of the workplace. Felt like the administrative staff genuinely cared about their employees.

    Cons

Smaller company, so didn't offer as progressive retirement as larger companies do. Would have liked to see more offerings for networking with other sites. Also would have been great to have Continuing education courses offered for licensed staff.

    Advice to Management

Offer more meetings or chances to network between different sites.

I worked at Genoa Healthcare full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

I received very good training at Genoa Healthcare. I appreciated the structure and organization of the company... There was never a "gray area", nor any question about how to properly handle any particular situation.

    Cons

The only downside was the need to self-promote the pharmacy, due to not being like well-know or chain pharmacy
