I worked at Gentiva full-time for less than a year

    Pros

It is centrally located off 285 for easy access on and off. Their color is wine.

    Cons

Once a position has been dissolved, or there is some down-sizing, this company lays you off despite positions open in another location or even in the same location. You must apply as if you were not a former employee to be considered.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

How is not relocating current employees who have already gone through a 4 week orientation and know 'Gentiva's way' being fiscally responsible? You'd rather spend the money to orient others for a month before they can actually start work? Hmmm.

I have been working at Gentiva full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Workload is not too heavy. Get to work on some interesting projects. Some people are really good at their jobs and you can learn from them.

    Cons

For a services company, it's shocking how little they value or invest in their employees. Corporate in particular gets the shaft. We are considered completely replaceable. The IT department is incompetent, with outdated systems and a lack of integration across the company. The company is an old boys club, hiring friends to do jobs they aren't qualified for. This company is ripe for a gender discrimination lawsuit.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Quit chasing the share price, think long-term and invest in human capital.

I worked at Gentiva full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

full benefits, 401k match, paid time off (but you'll have to fight others for the specific time)

    Cons

Operations didn't understand how to be sales minded and approach customers from a customer service perspective to ensure a positive experience. Constant battle between sales and ops. Numbers were set based on prior year performance and production was based on ability of clinical staff to perform. Fast moving environment with many moving parts. Not everyone on team able to work to the demands placed by corporate.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Everyone in branch is so over worked, they are stretched beyond capacity and it leads to burn out and frustration of everyone. Have to allow people the PTO they request... Ridiculous to have to fight for requested time off

I worked at Gentiva full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Hard working staff that wanted to do a good job for the company.

    Cons

You will be 'let go' for bringing things to their attention that they don't want anyone to know about.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

You can't hide bad business practices forever...the issue caught up with you, didn't it?

I have been working at Gentiva full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Gentiva is growing. The company holds a lot of opportunity for anyone with a great attitude and strong work ethic. They have offices all over the country so there is opportunity to move anywhere you like to advance your career. The pay and benefits are good and the management cares about the employees. The culture is good and focused on providing caring compassionate care.

    Cons

This company expects a lot from its workers. The industry is in a difficult economic environment due to Medicare cost cutting. The company is facing declining income and is in a cost cutting state so pay increases are not as good as I would have hoped.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stay in touch with your employees in the local offices.

Former Employee - RN Case Manager in Atlanta, GA

I worked at Gentiva part-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

5 weeks paid vacation,5 weeks paid vacation,5 weeks paid vacation,5 weeks paid vacation!

    Cons

Long hours, coverage area to large to provide quality patient care. Always push admits on you even though you have 10 patients scheduled on a daily basis. POOR,POOR,POOR orientation for new employees. No screening of patients prior to taking referral, take the sickest patients, the frequent fliers, the non-compliant patients and the expect RN case managers to keep them from going back into the hospital. They expect you to be about work 24/7. LOTS of after hour documentation without compensation.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Take on a case load of patients and see what it's like!!

I have been working at Gentiva full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Stable, low pressure work on average. Decent salaries compared to industry standards. Better than average paid time off.

    Cons

Little opportunity for advancement. Shrinking margins means less spending on "non-essentials" which translates to zero training and zero risk taking.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

If you have any interest in attracting and retaining IT talent, you've first got to position IT as a great ROI within the company, rather than a costly afterthought.

    Pros

I got experience in the Healthcare industry. Presented executive presentation weekly to the CIO and Senior Vice Presidents.

    Cons

total available resources for Gentiva Developers and Business Analyst were insufficient for the projects executive management wanted completed within physical years.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I worked at Gentiva full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Great hard working employees who strive to be the best in the industry

    Cons

Senior management is arrogant and out of touch. Gentiva was once a great place to work and achieve personal and career goals. Since 2007 it has turned into an organization of corporate greed, backstabbing and manipulation. As a corporate employee you have to kiss butt and watch your back. Years of sacrifice and proven success means nothing if you are not in the club.
