Pros
Learned a lot. I was an intern. I just wish I could stay there for a little longer.
Unfortunately, i have to go back to school.
Cons
I really really cannot think of any. But the housing market is not good right now. That does not give a promising future to the company.
Advice to Senior Management
How about build an onsite fitness center? There is no room to relax.
Except for that, cannot think of any.
Pros
If you are going to work for an MI company, this should be the one. I truly believe that they command more respect than their peers do.
Cons
Comodity product business with a highly skilled and tenured labor force that has recently made additional cuts in staff has resulted in poor moral. If you are a creative individual you will be frustrated by the lack of speed, and heavy resistance to change (it was rare to hear the words how do we make it work).
Advice to Senior Management
Separate from the larger corporate parent as soon as possible, Richmond continues to stifle creativity of the business and it's employees!
Pros
High salary compared to market, exceptional set of colleagues; top notch people talent. Management very focused on communication to all levels on business performance and goals - short and long term. Exceptional sales support tools and programs. Great array of outside events for employees often with thier families able to participate.
Cons
Cult of personality - Career potential set in the first few months and you cannot break out of the cast. Best to be early career so you can be tracked forward - mid career hires are cast in role with no path or expectation to do anything other than what they are hired for. Never observed an organization so heavily steered by HR. SL hires expierenced staff but often does not act on thier expierence nor seeks it out for validation.
Advice to Senior Management
"Smartest people in the room" is not always a reference that is directed as a positive in relationship to the way the business conducts itself.
Pros
Good, smart people to work with
Great benefits
Cons
Irrational Management - one quarter a particular item may be a goal to be considered an MVP and the next quarter you are told the same goal is no longer important and you get dinged
VERY tough industry to be in right now...
Pros
Professional atmosphere with excellent benefits.
Cons
Limited advancement opportunity to executive level.
Pros
Kevin Schneider and the senior management team at Genworth Mortgage Insurance have done an outstanding job at leading the organization through an incredibly challenging time. The communication from Kevin and the senior management has been timely and informative. I joined Genworth in 2009 from a good job at a different company. I have no regrets about my decision to leave my former employer and join Genworth. This is an excellent organization with a strong moral character.
Cons
Some evidence of departmental protectionism.
Advice to Senior Management
I encourage you to continue with the open and frequent communication to management. Keep up the great work during this tough time!
Pros
Benefits, Learning Opportunities, Time Off
Cons
Stress, Harsh Team Environment, Hostility
Advice to Senior Management
Work as a team
Pros
Quality of people; excellent compensation and benefits
Cons
HR department too involved in running the day-to-day activities of the business; dysfunctional senior leadership team.
Advice to Senior Management
Let go of all of the power point presentations and get back to basics when running the business. There is too much focus on form and not on substance.
